Primary objectives
Support the effective provision of parliament education programs, administrative and operational support
services to the Parliamentary Education Service.
Context statement
The DLA provides quality and timely support and advice for the operation of the Assembly, its committees,
Parliament House, and electorate offices and staff.
PES, which is part of the Parliamentary Support Division, is responsible for providing educational sessions for
school groups, government staff, community groups and other visitors. PES works at Parliament House, and in
schools across the Northern Territory.
Key responsibilities
1. Conduct tours of Parliament House for school groups, the public, government staff, stakeholders,
community groups and other visitors.
2. Deliver educational programs to school groups at Parliament House and in schools and deliver adult
education programs.
3. Assist with the development of educational resources for school students and adults.
4. Provide administrative support to the Parliamentary Education Services unit, including updating documents
and templates, distributing publications, finance, social media, records management, and website
administration.
1. Liaise with education staff, schools, community groups, government departments and other stakeholders
in performing duties associated with developing and delivering education programs.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Highly effective interpersonal communication skills including the ability to communicate confidently with a
diverse range of small and large groups, and liaise appropriately with Members of the Legislative Assembly,
stake holders and the public.
1. Highly effective organisational skills with a demonstrated ability to provide timely administrative support,
prioritise tasks appropriately, work unsupervised, and work effectively within a small team.
1. Well-developed written skills and experience in developing written materials.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of programs or similar, and a high level of
competence with Microsoft Word.
5. Demonstrated ability to respect and adhere to the requirements of impartiality, integrity, and
confidentiality.
Desirable
1. Experience in delivering education programs.
2. Knowledge of parliament and civics education.
Requirements for selection and undertaking the role
1. Prior to being formally offered a position with the Department of the Legislative Assembly, applicants will
be required to submit a pre-employment declaration which includes information regarding their criminal
history, conflict of interest and other continuing employment or volunteer work.
1. Access to recreation leave will be restricted during parliamentary sitting periods.
2. The position is based at Parliament House; however, will require travel throughout the Northern Territory
at times.
1. A Working with Children Clearance Notice (Ochre Card) is required for this position.
2. This position requires that a uniform be worn for education programs, tours, and parliamentary events.
3. The right to disconnect – This position is not expected to be available for regular work-related contact
outside of normal work hours.
