As a First Nations Police Liaison Officer, your goal will be to assist in developing trust and understanding between members of the Queensland Police Service and the wider community, with a particular focus on local First Nations communities.You will join a dedicated team of Police Liaison officers and have the opportunity to apply your unique skills across various priorities for the QPS, including youth crime and domestic violence.Your success will depend on your positive attitude and proactive engagement with the community.Targeted VacancyThis is an identified position. It is a genuine occupational requirement that this position be filled by a First Nations person as permitted by and arguable under Sections 25, 104, and 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act (1991). It is a genuine occupational requirement that the applicant be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. One of the referees should be able to attest to the applicant's background, knowledge, skills, and experience related to cultural capabilities.Role RequirementsThis is an identified position requiring a First Nations person as per the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld).The position involves driving QPS vehicles. The occupant must hold a Queensland ‘C' class driver’s license or be able to acquire one.The role requires wearing a Police Liaison Officer uniform and adherence to the QPS Code of Dress and Appearance.Working to a set roster, including weekends and shifts to attend local festivals, forums, and meet policing needs, with shift penalties and overtime potentially applying.Key CapabilitiesAssist in developing trust and understanding between QPS and local First Nations communities.Value diversity, thinking differently and innovating.Leverage your background, skills, and experience, and demonstrate personal qualities suitable for the role.The Core Capability Requirements For This Role AreContribute to organizational understanding of First Nations cultures.Assist police officers in culturally appropriate communication with community members by advising on First Nations customs and protocols.Identify opportunities to strengthen community engagement and develop culturally appropriate crime prevention and early intervention strategies.Help First Nations community members access policing services and refer them to other community services as needed.Engage proactively with First Nations and other multicultural community groups to develop community-led programs.Link key stakeholders across police, community, and government agencies to support community safety initiatives.Please note, this position is located in Blackwater, within the Blackwater Police Division.Applications remain current for 12 months.Occupational group: Community Engagement and Education
