**About the office**:
The Southport Electorate Office team consists of paid staff and volunteers. Local residents and community groups often engage with the office to raise concerns and seek resolutions to issues. Consequently, the office can be busy and no two days are the same. Accordingly, this role requires someone to be flexible, and responsive to the changing needs of the office.

**About the opportunity**:
The objectives of the Assistant Electorate Officer position are:
1. Provide secretarial, executive and administrative support;
2. Supporting and engaging with constituents and community groups; and
3. General administration of the daily operations of the electorate office.
As assisting members of the public and community groups are a core function of the electorate office, the Assistant Electorate Officer is primarily responsible for ensuring that inquiries are responded to and issues are resolved in a timely manner.
The Southport Electorate is home to a wide variety of community organisations, and the Assistant Electorate Officer is repsonsible for proactively engaging with these groups to keep them abreast of relevant state government polices and grant opportunities.
Finally, the Electorate Office runs a number of regular events and forums. The Assistant Electorate Officer may be tasked with oversighting some of these, and ensuring they are completed on time, and working with local community groups to ensure events run smoothly.

**About the person**:
Applicants must demonstrate
- Our office relies on having systems in place to respond to the multiple community and parliamentary demands. We need someone who is highly organised, with an ability to adapt to and maintain existing office systems.
- This role works closely with Members of Parliament, Ministers, government departments and their respective officers. So, we need a person who can demonstrate an ability to cultivate professional working relationships with stakeholders.
- Local residents contact the office for range of issues, including sensitive matters. So, it is important that you are a good listener, can help identify the crux of an issue and work with residents and relevant government departments to seek a resolution.
- The role is responsible for taking accountability for events and other projects with tight deadlines and set timeframes, so you need to have an ability to work unsupervised, take initiative and demonstrate strong time management skills.
- Sound IT skills are essential, specifically within Microsoft, along with the willingness and ability to learn new systems.
