Head Chef – Redefine the Dining Experience

About the role

We are seeking an exceptional Head Chef to lead the culinary team at Queen Victoria Care in Hobart, Tasmania. In this full‑time role you will redefine the dining experience for our residents through the creation of innovative, high‑quality menus that showcase your passion for fresh, seasonal produce and your expertise in modern cuisine.

What you'll be doing

* Oversee all aspects of kitchen operations, including menu planning, food preparation, and staff management.
* Develop and implement creative, nutritious menus that cater to the diverse dietary needs and preferences of our residents.
* Ensure full compliance with our Food Safety Program, including daily oversight of HACCP documentation, temperature, traceability records, and the implementation, monitoring and review of all food safety and hygiene standards.
* Use our digital menu management system (SoupedUp) to design, update and control menus, ensuring resident dietary needs, allergens and preferences are accurately reflected.
* Lead a resident‑centred ordering process (e.g., using an iPad to take one‑on‑one orders) to capture individual choices, increase menu returns, and build social connection through regular engagement.
* Maintain the highest standards of food safety and hygiene in the kitchen.
* Mentor and train the culinary team to elevate their skills and foster a positive, collaborative work environment.
* Actively engage with residents to understand their dining preferences and incorporate their feedback into menu development.
* Collaborate with the management team to optimise kitchen operations and drive continuous improvement.

What we're looking for

* Experience as a Head Chef or Executive Chef in a similar aged‑care, healthcare, or hospitality setting.
* Formal culinary training and a strong understanding of nutrition and special dietary requirements.
* Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
* Proficiency in menu planning, budgeting and inventory management.
* Passion for using fresh, locally sourced ingredients to create innovative, flavourful dishes.
* Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of food safety and hygiene.

What we offer

* Competitive salary.
* Ongoing training and development opportunities.
* Flexible work arrangements to support work‑life balance.
* Employee wellness programmes and discounted healthcare services.
* Opportunities for career advancement within our growing organisation.

Our Culture – Who Will Thrive Here

* Value respect, kindness and professionalism in how you speak, lead and make decisions.
* Are solutions‑focused – you bring ideas.
* Take pride in consistency, presentation and the "little details."
* Believe that food is about dignity, connection and joy, not just nutrition.
* Are happy to be visible – greeting residents, listening to feedback and working as part of the wider care team.
