My Dead Grandpa (MDG) is a cutting-edge, innovative retail marketplace for pre-owned fashion and goods. Our Adelaide flagship store is the heart of the brand, a cultural and commercial hub that represents MDG's values of customer experience, sustainability, creativity, and community.

As MDG enters its next phase of growth and professionalisation, we are seeking an experienced and values-led Store Manager to lead our flagship Adelaide store.

About the Role

The Store Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for My Dead Grandpa's flagship Adelaide store. This is a senior leadership position responsible for driving commercial performance, developing a high-performing team, and delivering operational excellence while living and breathing the MDG brand.

Reporting directly to the Owners, this role plays a critical part in the ongoing success of MDG's retail network and future expansion. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong commercial acumen, people leadership, and a genuine passion for creative retail.

Key responsibilities

Store performance and commercial outcomes

● Achieve and exceed gross sales and profit margin targets

● Develop and implement data-driven strategies to improve conversion and repeat visitation

● Manage store budgets, expenses, and profitability

● Set and manage individual and team sales targets through coaching and performance management

● Contribute to forecasting and strategic decision-making

Leadership and team development

● Recruit, train, and retain a high-performing team aligned with MDG values

● Conduct regular performance reviews and development planning

● Address underperformance confidently and fairly in collaboration with ownership

● Facilitate team meetings, training sessions, and ongoing capability development

● Maintain strong communication with owners, operations, and sellers

Visual merchandising

● Oversee visual merchandising to maintain MDG's aesthetic standards

● Ensure store layouts align with brand direction and commercial goals

● Refresh displays regularly to highlight seasonal and key product ranges

● Maintain exceptional standards of cleanliness, organisation, and presentation

Customer experience

● Build and embed a customer-first culture within the team

● Train staff in service excellence, problem solving, and conflict resolution

● Manage escalated customer concerns with empathy and professionalism

● Monitor customer feedback and implement experience improvements

Store operations

● Create efficient rosters aligned with sales trends and labour budgets

● Oversee inventory control, tagging, and loss prevention measures

● Ensure compliance with workplace health, safety, and risk standards

● Maintain accurate reporting, documentation, and communication systems

● Manage opening and closing procedures with precision and accountability

About You

You are an experienced retail leader who thrives in creative, fast-paced environments and enjoys building strong teams and systems.

You will bring:

● Proven experience in retail management (creative, multi-seller, or lifestyle retail highly regarded)

● A minimum of 3 years of retail management experience is required for this position

● Strong commercial and financial acumen

● Confidence in recruitment, performance management, and people development

● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

● A balance of strategic thinking and hands-on operational leadership

● High personal accountability and professionalism

● Alignment with MDG's values of authenticity, sustainability, and community

Systems & Tools Experience

● Square (POS, reporting, analytics)

● Comprehensive training will be provided on Square POS system for candidates without prior experience

● Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Drive, Calendar)

● Connecteam (rostering, communication, compliance)

● Canva (basic visual communication support)

Within six months, you will have:

● Built a cohesive, motivated, and high-performing team

● Delivered consistent sales growth and operational excellence

● Embedded MDG's vision, mission, and values into daily store operations

● Improved systems, staff capability, and customer satisfaction

● Strengthened the flagship store's position as both a commercial and cultural leader

Growth & Development

As MDG grows, so do the opportunities. Subject to performance and business expansion,

future pathways may include:

● Regional Retail Manager

● National Operations Lead

● Involvement in retail strategy, brand initiatives, and business planning

Role Details

● Location: MDG Flagship Store – 10–16 Ranelagh Street, Adelaide SA 5000

● Hours: 38 hours per week, including weekends and late-night trade

● Flexibility: Required during peak retail periods and key brand activations

● Salary: $60,000 – $80,000 + super (based on experience) & KPI based bonuses linked to store performance.
