Offer description

Closes: 05 March 2026

Classification: Board/Committee/Council
Position No: Architects Board (Community Interest Member)
Directorate: Independent Statutory Offices including boards, tribunals and committees
Advertised (Gazettal date): 09 February 2026
Contact Officer: Sheikh Lana on

Details: The Architects Board oversees the registration of architects in the ACT and determines who may be registered in the Territory.

It investigates complaints about registered and former registered architects and, where appropriate, considers whether occupational discipline is warranted.

The Board may apply to the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal (ACAT) for occupational discipline orders.

The Board also advises the Minister on referred matters and the practice of architecture; works with other jurisdictions to support a consistent regulatory approach; accredits architecture courses; and provides information to consumers about professional conduct and competency standards.

The Board has five members: a nominee of a representative body, an academic architect, a registered architect, a commercial lawyer, and a community representative who is not a registered architect.

Job description

The community interest member represents community interests on the Board and carries out the functions of a Board member.

The member plays a role in providing a balanced viewpoint and promoting community interests and thinking.

An outcome for the Board is raising community awareness and appreciation of the role and contribution of architects in designing and shaping our built environment. The community interest member has a role in facilitating and communicating this outcome.

We are looking for candidates who are tapped into the community and community views and offer a diverse range of skills and background. You don’t need a background in architecture to be considered for this role. In fact, this position is not open to registered architects.

The appointment will be for three years, starting in August 2026. The Board meets at least four times a year. Members are entitled to a sitting fee for attending meetings.

How to apply: For further information regarding the position and to apply, please visit the ACT Diversity Register Board here.

Where an offer of employment is for a fixed-term period, any related temporary contracts within the Territory will be issued in compliance with the requirements and applicable exceptions outlined in the Fair Work Act.
