About the organisation
The Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council (QAIHC) is the peak body representing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) across Queensland. QAIHC exists to lead with self-determination, strengthen the ACCHO sector, and advocate for a culturally safe, equitable and sustainable health system that delivers improved health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Operating within a complex policy, funding and service delivery environment, QAIHC plays a critical leadership role at both state and national levels. The organisation is guided by its Strategic Plan 2026–2029, Ten-Year Blueprint 2024–2034, Constitution and Member mandate.
About the role
QAIHC is seeking a highly experienced and value-driven Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to work in close partnership with the Board of Directors. The CEO provides strategic, cultural and operational leadership, ensuring the delivery of QAIHC's vision, purpose and strategic priorities. The CEO represents the collective voice of Members and positions QAIHC as a respected and influential peak body at state and national levels.
About you
You are a respected, culturally grounded executive leader with a proven ability to lead complex organisations and operate effectively within dynamic governance, policy, and stakeholder environments. You bring demonstrated experience influencing policy and working productively with Boards, Members, and diverse stakeholders, building strong, trust-based relationships and strategic partnerships that support shared goals and long-term organisational sustainability.
Your leadership is values-based and Members-first, underpinned by strong strategic capability and sound judgement. You are deeply committed to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander self-determination, community control, and cultural safety, and you consistently embed these principles into leadership practice, decision-making, and organisational strategy to ensure outcomes are culturally strong, community-led, and sustainable.
Key Selection Criteria
Essential
* Significant senior executive leadership experience, preferably within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled, health, social or public sector organisations.
* Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander self-determination, community control and culturally safe practice.
* Proven experience in strategic leadership, policy influence and advocacy at senior levels.
* Strong governance, financial management and organisational leadership capability.
* Highly developed relationship-building, negotiation and communication skills.
* Ability to lead complex organisations and partnerships in dynamic environments.
Desirable
* Experience working with Boards in a peak body or membership-based organisation.
* Knowledge of the ACCHO sector, primary health care systems and Closing the Gap frameworks.
