About ArborMeta

At ArborMeta, we combine environmental purpose with technical precision. Originating from not-for-profit research, we have evolved into a data-driven environmental science company specialising in high-resolution forest measurement, spatial analysis and environmental assessment. Our work supports the conservation of global forests, sustainable biomass management, and informed environmental decision-making.

About the Role

We are seeking an Environmental Scientist to support the study, management and protection of natural environments through applied environmental science, spatial data analysis and policy implementation.

This role contributes directly to environmental assessment, planning, and the development and implementation of environmental management strategies, with a strong focus on spatial and environmental data to inform decision-making.

You will work closely with scientists, technical specialists and field teams to analyse environmental data, assess environmental impacts, and support conservation and land management outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

The Environmental Scientist will be responsible for the following core duties:

* Study, analyse and interpret environmental, ecological and spatial data to support the management and protection of natural resources, including forests, flora and fauna
* Conduct and contribute to environmental impact assessments for land use, development and conservation projects
* Evaluate habitat, wildlife and ecosystem conditions and assist in formulating short- and long-term environmental management objectives
* Study the effects of environmental factors such as terrain, climate, land use and human activity on plant and animal life
* Analyse environmental datasets including vegetation, soil, water, atmospheric and spatial data
* Develop, support and implement conservation and environmental management policies and plans
* Propose practical solutions to mitigate or remediate negative environmental impacts
* Assist with the development of standards and approaches for environmental protection, rehabilitation and sustainable land management
* Support conservation planning activities, including environmental inventories of flora, fauna and areas of environmental or cultural significance
* Use spatial data tools and systems to manage, process and interpret environmental datasets for reporting and analysis
* Collaborate with field teams and technical specialists to ensure data accuracy, quality and consistency

Skills and Experience

* A qualification in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Engineering, Geoscience or a closely related field
* Demonstrated experience working in environmental assessment, conservation, land management or environmental data analysis
* Strong analytical skills and experience working with environmental and/or spatial datasets
* Experience with GIS or spatial software (e.g. QGIS, ArcGIS) is highly regarded
* Familiarity with LiDAR data, environmental modelling or spatial analytics is an advantage
* Strong attention to detail and ability to manage structured datasets and documentation
* Ability to apply environmental science principles to real-world environmental and land management challenges
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Pathway to ongoing employment
