Primary objective
Promote and facilitate the release of new land for agriculture in the Northern Territory and provide leadership and strategic direction to
the Industry Development and Project Facilitation Branch.
Context statement
The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries has an agribusiness industry development function with a focus on identifying new land for
agriculture and promoting and facilitating the development of agribusiness and aquaculture across the Northern Territory. This position
leads the Industry Development and Project Facilitation Unit and works across all areas of agriculture including horticulture, aquaculture,
pastoral, forestry, and broad scale cropping to facilitate on farm industry development and pathways to markets.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide leadership and strategic direction to the Industry Development and Project Facilitation Unit.
2. Lead the department's responsibilities for identifying and releasing new land for agriculture and deliver sustainable economic
development outcomes for agriculture across the Northern Territory.
3. Coordinate the delivery of significant agriculture and fisheries projects, providing facilitation services to proponents and investors
including policy and regulatory knowledge needed to progress their projects.
4. In partnership with industry and other stakeholders establish consultative arrangements, set priorities, and develop collaborative
programs for agricultural supply, marketing, and policy.
5. Work cooperatively with Indigenous communities and organisations, business, and government agencies to support the development
of Indigenous agribusiness enterprises.
6. Support the Department to implement the priorities and policies of government relating to agribusiness development.
7. Cultivate effective and cooperative working relationships with key stakeholders across industry, at all levels of government and
elsewhere, to drive project outcomes and elicit support for projects.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in successfully facilitating significant and/or major projects with a whole of Government approach.
2. Demonstrated networking, collaboration, and brokerage skills with the ability to resolve conflicts and deliver results.
3. Demonstrated outcomes focus with extensive experience in strategic leadership and management.
1. High-level project management skills and the proven ability to drive and champion solutions that address the needs of multiple
stakeholders as well as achieving project outcomes.
5. Highly developed interpersonal and team management skills, in particular high level communication skills and a demonstrated ability
to influence others at the strategic level.
6. Working knowledge of contemporary and emerging issues impacting on development within a Northern Territory context.
Desirable
1. Experience in the provision of economic services.
2. Formal qualifications in business, economics, and project management.
3. Hold a current NT drivers licence and drive a 4WD vehicle.
Further information
1. This position may require travel to different work locations within the NT, interstate and overseas as required.
2. Undertake duties as required including early late and weekend work.
