Primary objective
Lead the management of community-based teams that promote the safety and wellbeing of children and families residing in remote
communities. Work in partnership with key stakeholders to ensure responses are provided across the continuum of child safety, youth
justice and family violence services, ranging from developing a community’s capacity to safeguard the wellbeing of children, providing
targeted support to families and support the statutory work of Department of Children and Families (DCF).

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide leadership and management across regional family support services and agency operated Women’s Safe House’s ensuring

connectedness within DCF and with other agencies.
2. Facilitate collaboration across whole of government, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, Non-Government Organisations

and community leaders to identify community needs to provide community-based responses that ensure appropriate service
integration and delivery to meet the needs of individual families and communities.

3. Manage all aspects of the remote place-based teams including human resources, the direct management of a team of professional
practitioners, professional development and supervision.

4. Provide high level, proactive and timely advice to the Director and Executive Director on complex issues impacting on the safety and
wellbeing of children in the Big Rivers Region, particularly where these issues relate directly to child protection, family support and
domestic violence.

5. Oversee performance measures and data collection methods that ensure the region meets the established targets required of the
Australian Government funding agreement and strategic priorities of the region.

6. Participate in regional cross agency activities, tasks and groups as required such as local Child Safety Coordination Groups, emergency
management committees and participate in the DCF After Hours Service.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. A degree of an Australian tertiary institution, which gives eligibility for membership of the Australian Community Workers Association,

the Australian Association of Social Workers, or the Australian Psychological Society, or equivalent, or a Diploma of Child, Youth and
Family Intervention and Vocational Graduate Certificate in Community Services Practice (Statutory Child Protection).

2. Extensive experience in the delivery of welfare and family violence services, experience in management, supervision and coordination
of a team and proven ability to communicate and work in a culturally secure and constructive manner.

3. Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in a social services setting.
4. High level knowledge and understanding of the legislation and policy frameworks relevant to welfare and domestic violence practice

in the Northern Territory.
5. Well-developed strategic, conceptual, analytical and creative skills including the ability to exercise sound judgement about policy and

business strategies.
6. Proven performance in sustaining productive working relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, linking

strategy, policy and operational activities including highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to express ideas clearly and
communicate with influence, both orally and in writing.

7. Current Northern Territory driver’s licence or ability to obtain and preparedness to travel in 4WD vehicles and light planes as required
and ability travel including overnight stays as necessary.

Desirable
1. Experience living and working in the Big Rivers Region including local Aboriginal language skills.
