About the Role
As an Infrastructure Engineer (APS6 equivalent), you will contribute to the design, maintenance, and optimisation of critical infrastructure that supports large‑scale digital services for a high‑security federal environment.
You’ll be responsible for diagnosing and resolving network problems, implementing network changes, supporting infrastructure lifecycles, and ensuring systems meet stringent performance and security standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Investigate, diagnose, and resolve network issues while advising on preventative strategies.
* Manage support requests in line with policies, procedures, and security standards.
* Design and implement network changes, maintenance routines, and infrastructure improvements.
* Apply knowledge of Defence‑grade data, voice, and audio networking technologies.
* Build collaborative working relationships and actively participate in team activities.
* Interpret and comply with security policy and contribute to developing standards and guidelines.
The Successful Candidate
You will be an experienced, security‑cleared infrastructure professional with strong capability across network and systems administration in complex environments.
You will bring:
* Demonstrated experience using infrastructure management tools to assess load and performance, including automation scripting.
* Experience analysing system availability, reliability, maintainability, and performance.
* Strong problem‑solving skills in investigating and resolving systems issues.
* Proven capability in installing and de‑installing complex systems or components.
* A Diploma or Bachelor in IT, Computer Science, Information Systems, or similar.
* Proficiency in network automation and solid knowledge of protocols, architectures, devices, and topologies.
Candidates must also be willing to undergo an Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to engagement.

Location: The role is based in Canberra ACT, Melbourne VIC or Brisbane QLD
Contract terms: 12 months from commencement date, plus potential extensions
SFIA level required: The Specified Person will be expected to demonstrate attributes of SFIA Level of Responsibility 5.
Security Requirements: Current Top-Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) security clearance is strongly preferred, however candidates who have held a TSPV in the previous 12-month period (which has since been downgraded) may be considered. An OSA (Organisational Suitability Assessment) will be required for this position.
