About This Opportunity We are seeking a passionate Primary Care Veterinary Clinician who is eager to shape the future of the veterinary profession by teaching and mentoring the next generation of veterinarians and veterinary technologists in a clinical setting. Based at the UQ VETS Small Animal Hospital within the School of Veterinary Science, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, relationship-centred veterinary care to patients. In this role, you will contribute to clinical teaching and supervision of undergraduate veterinary science and veterinary technology students, as well as the training and mentoring of interns and junior clinicians. Key responsibilities will include: Clinical Service Delivery – Provide high-quality, relationship-centred care to small animal patients and, as required, wildlife cases. Independently manage routine and complex cases, serve as a clinical role model, mentor junior staff, and contribute to continuous service improvement. Teaching and Supervision – Actively engage in clinical teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students, interns, and residents. Support pre-clinical teaching activities as required by the School and continue developing expertise in clinical education. Leadership and Professional Role Modelling – Provide clinical leadership in challenging cases, foster a culture of excellence, and serve as a mentor and role model for students and colleagues. Engagement and Development – Promote and strengthen the School’s relationships with industry, government, professional bodies, and the wider community. Actively participate in continuing education (CE) events for personal and professional growth. Operational and Administrative Support – Contribute to the effective day-to-day management of the service, uphold sound business practices, and undertake other duties as reasonably directed by the Service Lead, Clinical Director, Veterinary Teaching Hospital management, and the Head of School. Demonstrated experience performing at an advanced clinical level, which may include: Completion of an internship incorporating exposure to and management of small animal or emergency and critical care cases. Award of membership of ANZCVS or equivalent An equivalent combination of qualifications, training and/or experience. Demonstrated relationship-centred approach to veterinary care, with a commitment to developing genuine partnerships with the entire healthcare team, including the client Demonstrated accountability and a proactive attitude with the enthusiasm and drive to identify and contribute to improvements within the Small Animal Hospital Commitment and enthusiasm for the education of Veterinary Science and Veterinary Technology students Capacity to serve as an excellent clinical veterinary role model An understanding and knowledge of relevant legislative and professional requirements relating to veterinary practice in QLD and to veterinary health and safety requirements ​Ability to establish effective professional relationships and to represent the School of Veterinary Science to the university and wider community, including industry, government and professional bodies Demonstrated effective interpersonal, teamwork, negotiation and consultation skills and formal written and oral communication skills Vaccinations and Immunisation It is a condition of employment for this role that if you are required now or in the future, to work or interact in Queensland Health clinical facility; or in an equivalent clinical health facility; or health care role; or will be required to perform work tasks that put you at risk of exposure to vaccine-preventable disease you are required to be immunised against, and remain immunised against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs) in accordance with the University’s Vaccinations and Immunisation Guidelines (PPL 2.60.08). The employee is required to provide evidence of immunisation against VPDs. The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, education check, mandatory immunisations. Questions?
