Established in 1962, Belmore School is a specialist school catering for students 5-18 years who have a physical disability and/or significant health impairment requiring paramedical support. Students have a wide range of intellectual abilities, and some have multiple disabilities and complex needs. All students are funded under the Program for Students with Disabilities, however we are currently transitioning students to be funded under the new Disability Inclusion Funding Model. Located in Stroud Street Balwyn with a frontage on Belmore Road, our school catchment area covers the northeast quadrant of Melbourne.
Belmore School has a highly qualified and experienced teaching team passionate about providing an optimum learning environment for our students. Supported by small class sizes and an extensive education support team, teachers aim to provide best practice in teaching and learning to enable each student to achieve their full potential. The teaching and education support team are supported by an onsite allied health team, this team comprises of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, a Music Therapist and an Allied Health Assistant. There is also an experienced Nurse on site at all times to manage students medical needs.The allied health team works closely with families, RCH, Orthokids and NDIS providers to ensure consistency for each student and promote optimal skill development and participation in the community.
Selection Criteria
* Experience in delivering paediatricOccupational Therapy services includingexperience in assessment, development andevaluation of evidence-based interventions.
* Demonstrated experience working with students with complex physical disabilities.
* Experience utilising adaptive equipment to best support students to access their environment as well as maintaining optimal positioning and alignment.
* Demonstrated interpersonalskills and the ability to engage successfully withteachers, therapists and education support staffsupporting integration of all programs.
* Demonstrated well developed time management and organisational skills.
Role
The Occupational Therapist will be responsible for the provision of service in a specialist school setting for students aged 5-18 with complex physical disabilities and/or health impairments. Belmore School has a maximum capacity of 60 students. The successful applicant will work in a transdisciplinary team with speech pathologists, physiotherapists, music therapist, teachers and education support staff to identify goals, deliver assessment and establish programs around functional living skills, sensory processing, fine motor skills and overall engagement in school curriculum.
This position has the potential to be extended beyond the January 2027.
Responsibilities
In addition to the Occupational Therapist Role some other responsibilities the successful applicant will also carry out are:
* Design and implement goal focused occupational therapy programs for students in classrooms and group settings
* Management and adjustment of a range of supportive and specialist equipment and liaising with external equipment providers as required
* Supporting and embedding sensory and fine motor programs within the school curriculum
* Consultations and training for teachers, education support, leadership and therapy team around evidence based and best practise strategies and implementation of these in the classroom
* Provide recommendations to support students independent learning plans
* Liaising with speech pathologists around accessing both electronic and non-electronic communication systems
* Supporting transition of students to both mainstream schools and post school options
* Completion of learning access, toileting and bus profiles for all students on your caseload
* Responsibility for own clinical supervision and professional development as well as sharing responsibility for university professional practice students.
* To undertake other duties as directed by the Principal and Therapy leader.

Conditions of Employment
* EFT to be negotiated with student support.
