Be part of a compassionate team at John Hunter Children’s Hospital!

We’re looking for a dedicated Assistant in Nursing (AIN) to train in and deliver Meal Support Therapy,
supporting young people on their journey to recovery from eating disorders

How You Will Support

Meal Support Therapy (MST) helps young people experiencing an eating disorder re-establish regular, adequate eating within a structured and supportive environment. Staff ensure appropriate meals are provided, accurately document intake, and support patients to eat in a social setting, gently challenging the rigidity and rules associated with disordered eating.

Throughout each meal, staff provide empathy, encouragement, and therapeutic distraction to help manage distress and build confidence around eating, and work to encourage flexibility and progress around eating disorder behaviours.

You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that works closely together, participating in daily huddles to support clear communication and collaborative decision-making, ensuring the consistent and effective delivery of Meal Support Therapy.
What You Will Bring

To succeed in this role, you bring compassion and patience, paired with strong communication and teamwork skills. You are dedicated to supporting young people in their recovery within a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.

Why Join Us?

* Work within a highly collaborative and supportive team
* Receive structured training and ongoing support, including supernumerary shifts
* Develop specialised skills in eating disorder care
* Make a meaningful difference in the recovery journey of young people
* Access to discounted gym options with Fitness Passport
* Support your wellbeing through Employee Assistance Program
* 4 weeks annual leave and paid parental leave (pro-rata for part time employees)
