Please take a moment to watch the video featuring our people sharing their insights on our company values.The Export Manager leads a range of export investments aligned with Hort Innovation's strategy, and the export plans of our horticultural industries.
Like all Managers in the Trade & Biosecurity R&D team, the role contributes to the design and management of programs to provide industry with tailored export knowledge, tools and supply-chain frameworks to sustainably grow exports, taking into consideration the changing global trading landscape.The key focus of this role is to ensure Australian horticultural industries are resilient and adaptable in their approach to export.
Using a collective approach this role provides benefit to each horticultural industry, increasing the international competitiveness of the horticulture sector and contributing to Australian agricultural development.Managing stakeholder relationships; both internally within Hort Innovation Trade & Biosecurity R&D team; and externally with industries, governments, service delivery partners in Australia and internationally is a critical element of the role.Hort Innovation's Trade & Biosecurity R&D team is committed to transformational research and market development focusing on biosecurity, supply chains, food safety, international market access and pests and disease.Roles and ResponsibilitiesLead flagship trade development projects, export strategies, and international market intelligence initiatives across horticulture sectors targeting export growth.Manage and deliver projects aligned with industry export strategies, improving export readiness, compliance, and fostering sustainable growth.Provide timely analysis and strategic advice to the Heads of Export and Biosecurity R&D on export market trends, challenges, and opportunities.Support the Head of Export in engaging with industry and government to resolve trade issues, communicate project outcomes, and manage relationships with overseas service providers.Contribute to intelligence gathering and network development, strengthening government and industry stakeholder relationships to achieve sustainable export market expansion.Contribute to market access processes, including IMAAP, and resolve issues impacting market entry.Actively engage with growers, supply chain partners, peak industry bodies, service providers, and government to share knowledge and expertise across the sector.Collaborate with Hort Innovation colleagues—including Investment Managers, Strategic Development Partners, Marketing, R&D, Data & Insights, and Communications—to achieve strategic objectives and exceed stakeholder expectations.Experience and CapabilityTertiary qualifications in international business, relations, politics, or a related field.Strong understanding of agribusiness, export operations, and government/regulatory compliance.Experience in agricultural trade, with a focus on international business development, trade relations/policy, market access, phytosanitary, and/or regulatory aspects.Highly proactive, resourceful, and self-motivated.Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholder groups, including international partners.Capacity to build and maintain productive relationships internally and externally.Knowledge of policy and legislative development, advisory, and implementation processes.Analytical and commercially minded, with experience leading complex programs and service providers.Advanced oral and written communication skills.Understanding of commercialisation and implementation of research outcomes.What you'll getHybrid work environmentSalary sacrificingOne extra leave day between Christmas and New YearSeasonal vaccinationsReward and recognition programWellbeing focus including free access to an Employee Assistance Program plus other tools and resourcesA highly motivated and fun teamHow to Apply:Please submit your resume and cover letter, telling us why you want to join the Hort Innovation team by clicking on the 'Apply for this job'.
