Local Economy Coordinator

Champion Economic Development with a Social Impact Lens

We're seeking a forward-thinking leader in this parental leave cover role to be our Inclusive Enterprise and Local Economy Coordinator. You'll lead a diverse team to implement economic development strategies and advance sustainable social and inclusive enterprise models that deliver community value.

Why You'll Love This Role

Are you a strategic leader passionate about building thriving local economies and social enterprises? As Inclusive Enterprise and Local Economy Coordinator, you'll spearhead initiatives that foster economic growth, create meaningful employment opportunities, and drive social impact. Working with businesses, social enterprises, government agencies, and community partners, you'll shape innovative strategies that strengthen local businesses, create jobs, and build social enterprises.

Combine operational leadership with social impact - lead strategic initiatives to drive local economic growth and develop impactful social enterprises.

This role is part of Banyule's Leadership Network – you'll have opportunities to grow your skills and experience of leadership in a Local Government context and develop your skills as an organisational leader beyond your role-based expertise.

What You Will Do

You will be a people leader of a dynamic and exciting team that works at the unique merging of social enterprise, inclusive employment and economic development – this is not a regular economic development role. You'll be joining a team that leads inclusion and working with businesses across council. You'll:

Lead and deliver Banyule's award winning Inclusive Local Economy work with a focus on social enterprises, inclusive employment, vibrant retail precincts, working in partnership with 11 Traders Associations and progressing the new Inclusive Economy Strategy.
Lead a high functioning team of 8 staff to deliver programs and events that support building our inclusive economy and community wellbeing.

Please note - this is not an economics role, but rather a local government economic development role with an inclusion lens.

What You'll Bring/what We Are Looking For

Degree qualified in Economic Development, Commerce, Community Development, or a related field
Extensive experience in an Economic Development and/or Community Development environment focused on economic inclusion and/or other relevant discipline with experience managing economic inclusion and development efforts
Significant experience in leading, managing and supporting staff to achieve the best possible outcomes in their practice
Experience building relationships to influence and negotiate desired outcomes with internal and external stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver specific outcomes within clearly defined time and resource constraints
Ability to manage program area budgets and operate within local government procurement and finance requirements

Pre-employment Requirements

Current Victorian Drivers Licence
Current Working with Children's Check
Psychometric Assessment

We Offer

A temporary (parental leave cover) full time position until 30 June 2027.
A leadership role with community impact.
Salary range $127,378.47 to $142,362.88 per annum, plus super.
Ongoing learning and development opportunities, including health and well-being initiatives.
Flexible work and leave arrangement, with hybrid work arrangements, and a monthly RDO.
