The Opportunity
We’re seeking a Civil Design Engineer to join our growing team in Toowoomba. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional to lead complex civil design projects from concept to completion while mentoring junior staff and contributing to our continued success.
Responsibilities
Leadership
Uphold and promote HIG’s values, vision, and behaviours.
Work closely with executive engineers/design managers to meet performance targets.
Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
Identify and communicate project or business risks.
Review design schemes under the guidance of the design manager.
Project Management
Lead the design and documentation of civil infrastructure projects.
Manage and coordinate subcontractors and consultants.
Maintain regular client engagement and manage stakeholder expectations.
Conduct site visits to oversee progress and compliance.
Project Cost Management
Track project budgets and ensure financial alignment.
Forecast and report on project expenditure.
Escalate budget issues to the Chief Operations Officer.
Business Development
Proactively identify new project opportunities.
Represent HIG in industry events and build professional networks.
Communicate potential leads to management.
Tenders and Submissions
Contribute to tender preparation and submission processes alongside the design manager.
About You
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor in Civil Engineering (minimum).
5+ years’ experience in civil design—urban/rural roads, traffic, and/or hydraulics.
Hold or working towards achieving RPEQ accreditation.
Experience in land development/subdivision design (advantageous).
Proficiency in AutoCAD, 12D and/or Civil 3D - preferable, and Microsoft Suite.
Experience working to local client standards and design guidelines.
Strong project management, cost control, and team leadership experience.
Skills and Attributes
Deep knowledge of Austroads and DTMR design standards; WSUD experience is a plus.
Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Ability to think critically and maintain a high level of accuracy and detail.
Strong time management and ability to juggle priorities across multiple projects.
