DATA ENGINEERING & ANALYTICS LEAD | Sydney (St Leonards)

Where you'll make an impact

Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), you'll lead the uplift of Hamilton Island's data engineering capability and the ongoing maturity of our Snowflake data platform. This role is technical and hands-on, combining leadership with deep data engineering expertise.

Data Platform & Engineering Leadership

* Own, architect, and evolve the Snowflake data platform as the enterprise data backbone
* Design, build, and optimise scalable ELT/ETL pipelines feeding Snowflake
* Implement dbt models, data warehousing patterns, and engineering best practices
* Establish data quality, lineage, governance, and automation frameworks within Snowflake
* Lead platform modernisation and cloud migration initiatives centred around Snowflake
* Build CI/CD and version-controlled data workflows for Snowflake and supporting tools

Analytics Enablement

* Providing high-quality, well-modelled data to empower reporting and decision-making
* Supporting the adoption of analytics and self-service tools (e.g., Power BI)
* Partnering with business stakeholders to translate requirements into data models, pipelines, and governed datasets
* Ensuring the data platform supports accurate, timely, and reliable enterprise reporting

Leadership & Collaboration

* Work closely with an external delivery partner using a hands-on, outcomes-driven approach
* Provide technical direction and ensure engineering delivery aligns with architectural standards
* Mentor and uplift internal capability while managing vendor performance
* Partner with business units across Hotels, F&B, HR, Retail, Sales & Marketing, and Finance
* Identify opportunities for automation, integration, and optimisation across the organisation
* Prepare the business for emerging technologies including AI, ML, and advanced automation

Business Partnership & Delivery

* Partner with stakeholders across Hotels, Food & Beverage, Sales & Marketing, HR, Retail, Finance, and more
* Deliver reliable data solutions and translate findings into actionable insights
* Ensure alignment of data initiatives with business needs and operational workflows
* Manage vendor relationships to ensure delivery quality, long-term value, and alignment with requirements
* Champion a data-driven culture focused on transparency, ethical use, and continuous learning
* Execute and evolve the enterprise data strategy, delivering measurable business outcomes
* Drive adoption of analytics tools and self-service capabilities across the organisation
* Improve data platform architecture, governance, performance, and security
* Establish and maintain robust data governance frameworks, policies, and standards
* Translate business needs into technical requirements, data models, and analytics outputs
* Identify opportunities for automation, integration, and insight generation
* Prepare the organisation for emerging technologies including AI and machine learning

What we're looking for

You are a confident, hands-on technical data leader with deep Snowflake engineering expertise. The ideal candidate is someone who can architect, optimise, and scale Snowflake solutions while leading teams and partners.

To be successful, you'll need

* Minimum five years' experience in senior data engineering, data architecture, or data & analytics leadership roles
* Essential: Significant hands-on experience with Snowflake, including:
* Designing and administering Snowflake environments
* Data modelling, schema design, and performance tuning
* Warehouse optimisation, security, and cost management
* Strong hands-on experience with SQL, ELT/ETL, data modelling, and data governance frameworks
* Experience implementing and maintaining data strategies, roadmaps, and data platform architectures
* Practical experience with dbt, ADF/Airflow, or similar orchestration/modelling tools (desirable but highly valued)
* Exposure to analytics environments (e.g., Power BI) - helpful but secondary to core engineering capability
* Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field (desirable)
* Experience managing budgets, vendors, delivery partners, and service levels
* Demonstrated success leading internal and external teams to deliver secure, high-performing data solutions
* Experience in hospitality, tourism, or other customer-centric industries (highly desirable)
* Exposure to data science, automation, AI, or natural language processing (NLP) (desirable)
