About the role
We are delighted to announce that we are inviting applications for the role of Laboratory Technician.
Working in our Kurri Kurri Technical centre – located near Newcastle on a Monday – Friday roster, you’ll be submerged in an environment that allows you to learn the fundamentals of mining explosives manufacture and delivery. Surrounded by scientists with a wealth of technical expertise, this is the perfect learning environment for someone new who has a keen interest in the mining and explosives industry.
You’ll be providing laboratory based explosive testing and technical support. Your new role will see you use your chemistry and laboratory experience in a hands-on role that provides our customers with everyday solutions which allows our field-based staff to act upon.
What you will be doing
* Conducting experiments to evaluate proposed material or process changes on product quality;
* Under-taking experimental investigations to resolve technical performance issues;
* Milling and testing rock samples to prevent premature detonation of explosives on mine sites, and testing products to determine safe sleep times;
* Trouble shooting product and manufacturing problems from the laboratory and recommend corrective actions;
* Conducting compliance testing on products to meet local legislative requirements;
* Conducting product performance testing on Bulk and Packaged Explosives.
What you will bring
* A safety-first philosophy in all aspects of your work;
* Good laboratory practices ensuring that experimental results are recorded at the time of testing;
* You will be comfortable communicating and interpreting test results with an ability to work with formulations and follow systems;
* You are someone who can manage and operate laboratory measurement equipment;
* Above anything we are looking for someone who takes pride in their personal organization and time management skills with effective report writing and verbal all-encompassing communication skills;
* You will have a Chemistry or Chemical Engineering degree, or a laboratory diploma with laboratory exposure.
