Job Description
Thornton Engineering provide design and fabrication of structural steel, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, plate & pilings to clients throughout Australia and they are currently looking to recruit an experienced and qualified Fabrication Team Leader to join their team in Corio VIC.
The successful candidate will need to undertake and possess:
Responsibilities
Lead and supervise a team of welders and fabricators in a busy manufacturing business
Supervise and direct the work of welders and fabricators, delegating tasks and ensuring timely completion.
Assess and allocate tasks based on team members' skills and experience.
Provide guidance, instruction, and mentorship to team members.
Monitor weld quality and ensure adherence to welding standards and procedures.
Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
Ensure that all welding personnel are qualified with the correct welding processes and positions.
Being able to read and analyse blueprints and drawings
Have the ability and experience to use a TIG and MIG welder
Examining welds for the width of bead, penetration and precision
Have the ability to weld vertically, horizontally and overhead
Be able to weld various metals using various techniques
Cut, roll, shape, bend, mould, spin, heat or hammer metal products to fabricate parts or sub-assemblies
Heat treat metal parts and components
Set up and/or operate hand and machine tools, welding equipment
Assemble parts and structures by lining up and joining them by welding, bolting or riveting
Finish products by cleaning, polishing, filing or bathing them in acid solutions, or by applying protective or decorative coatings
Skills and Abilities
Certificate III in Engineering (Welding Fabrication) or equivalent qualification
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Ability to delegate tasks effectively and motivate team members.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with team members and other stakeholders.
Ability to work in a team environment
