About Us

Originally named The Wayside Foundation, The Ted Noffs Foundation was established in 1970 by the Australian humanitarian, Reverend Ted Noffs, who's work championed social justice, mental health support, and innovative youth services. Today, the Foundation continues his legacy, delivering frontline services and community support across NSW, ACT & QLD. With over 200 staff and 350 volunteers, we remain deeply committed to helping young people affected by issues related to drugs, crime, and mental health.

The Role

Noffs is looking for a dedicated Adolescent and Family Counsellor to provide outreach support to young people experiencing substance use and mental health issues through engagement, case management and counselling. A major aspect is to assist young people to rebuild their relationships with their families and other significant people in their lives and to manage their lives more effectively.

This role will rotate between our outreach partner organisations and out of The Street University at Canberra, a non‑residential youth centre that helps those aged 12‑25 with drug, crime and mental health issues. It is a safe environment where young people can engage in creative workshops ranging from music and dance to murals and graffiti art. Evidence‑based counselling is available to help our youth reduce their drug use and involvement in crime and to improve their mental health and wellbeing.

Responsibilities and duties include:

* Conduct thorough assessments of clients.
* Provide individual counselling as required.
* Provide family counselling (or refer) and other relationship counselling as required.
* Provide individual case work support and refer to other parties as required.
* Liaise effectively with referrers, other service providers and families to ensure best service for the client.
* Create and manage effective referral pathways for clients to access the service.
* Arrange community networking for a young person to encourage positive interactions in a safe and supportive environment.
* Deliver case management services for young people as appropriate.
* Maintain client records, statistical records and provide reports as required.
* Develop and maintain referral pathways.
* Travel within the catchment areas providing AOD counselling services.
* Relevant tertiary qualifications e.g. psychology, counselling, social work.
* Experience and demonstrated ability to work with young people between the ages of 12 and 25 years old.
* Ability to operate in an outreach setting.
* Ability to work effectively both as a team member and as a practitioner with minimal supervision.
* Strong personal and interpersonal boundaries.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Commitment to the principles of harm minimisation and to the aims of the Ted Noffs Foundation.
* Must hold and maintain a current Working With Vulnerable People Check and Drivers Licence (Provisional Drivers Licence Minimum).
* Experience in the drug and alcohol sector.
* Registration or eligible for membership with AHPRA or other professional association.
* Minimum 2 years direct counselling experience.

If you're looking for work that's real, challenging, and genuinely makes a difference—you've found the right place.

At Noffs, we stand beside young people who've faced adversity early in life, offering free, evidence-based treatment and genuine care. If you're ready to make a meaningful impact and walk alongside these young people on their journey, we'd love to hear from you.
