Job Summary
In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s civil/structural aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, evaluation, and constructability reviews of civil/structural components and processes. Your technical expertise will ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s civil/structural aspects are met.
Major Responsibilities
- Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the civil/structural engineering work for a global business unit, a project or staff group to include the preparation of original designs, layouts, details, drawings and specifications for structures, buildings, roadways, railroads, etc.
- Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates Civil/Structural components and processes utilizing Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and Design Control Check List (DCCL) and Design Review Notices (DRNs).
- Designs structures using advanced knowledge of structural analysis, including statics, dynamics, and materials engineering.
- Determines the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements.
- Originates and checks complex structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions.
- Other responsibilities as designated.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Requires a bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Demonstrated, solid experience in structural engineering.
- Experience in the mining and metals industry including design of process plants, materials handling systems and/or non-process infrastructure.
- Demonstrated technical capabilities in front-end engineering studies (preferred).
- In-depth knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, design criteria, guides and procedures, and codes relevant to civil discipline.
