About the Role
The RCH Ophthalmology Department is seeking a Consultant Ophthalmologist with a subspecialty in Paediatric Ophthalmology to join the team.
You will be responsible for delivering paediatric ophthalmic care to referred inpatients and outpatients, working in a supportive team environment comprising ophthalmologists, orthoptists and junior medical staff.
Additional responsibilities include providing active clinical supervision and training to junior medical staff, medical students, allied health colleagues and students.
Responsibilities
Providing paediatric ophthalmic care to referred inpatients and outpatients in the RCH Ophthalmology outpatient clinic and surgical setting.
Providing interdepartmental consultation service as required to patients under the care of RCH and liaising in a timely and effective manner with internal colleagues.
Working within the scope of practice relevant to the role, which will be determined with the Director, Department of Ophthalmology.
Being actively involved in supervision and training of ophthalmology registrars, fellows, medical students, orthoptists and orthoptic students.
Contributing to department meetings and auditing processes.
Involvement in department clinical research activities.
Keeping accurate, timely and concise clinical documentation of all episodes of patient care in the patient's medical record.
Required Experience & Skills
Legal qualifications as a medical practitioner.
FRANZCO or equivalent.
Experience in paediatric ophthalmology.
A high level of relevant ophthalmic clinical skills in the outpatient and operating settings.
Excellent communication skills with children, their families, and all levels of staff; a positive attitude and demonstrated capacity to work harmoniously and collaboratively within a team.
Other Requirements
Current National Criminal Record Check, or willingness to obtain one.
Valid Working with Children Check.
Compliance with RCH's "Staff Immunisation - Prevention of Vaccine Preventable Diseases" procedure.
