Broadsheet Media is looking for a Hot List Editor to join our editorial team, 3 days per week, in Melbourne or Sydney. Broadsheet launched The Hot list in 2024. The 100-strong, regularly updated list of restaurants, bars, cafes and bakeries is a snapshot of the venues that define dining and drinking in Melbourne and Sydney – the essential stops for anyone passionate about food and drink in their cities.
The Hot List Editor values the cultural depth and diversity of our cities and appreciates that a $15 banh mi and a 10-course tasting menu are equally deserving of respect and celebration. They are able to summarise key trends in the Australian hospitality industry and produce thoughtful analysis of shifts within the Melbourne and Sydney’s restaurant scenes, as well as identify compelling news hooks and profile subjects.
Balancing coverage of beloved institutions, established names and the most exciting new openings, the Hot List Editor blend data insights with their own expertise and up-to-the-minute industry knowledge to work with Broadsheet’s team of editors to curate and refine the list each week. They are also involved in the editing and maintenance of Broadsheet’s broader food and drink venue directory.
This is a role for a strong writer and editor with experience in digital media, with excellent communication skills. The Hot List Editor is responsible for: writing and publishing articles highlighting Melbourne and Sydney venues on the list; updating venue listings with new copy and photography; converting news features into Directory profiles; crafting the content for weekly newsletter modules; liaising with industry contacts and Hot List venues; contributing to production and maintenance of Broadsheet’s Directory of profiles and guides; and working with Broadsheet’s campaign management team to ensure a monthly set of content deliverables are produced at top quality to deadline.
