The Department of Communities brings together the services and functions of disability services, child protection and family support, housing, community initiatives and regional services reform.
About Us
The Strategy and Partnerships division develops high-level, long term strategies across multiple portfolios in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to guide service delivery and investment decisions for the Department of Communities. The division operates a number of Strategic Units as bespoke Departmental hubs for identified priority areas that drive capability across the agency and WA Government, as well as deliver guidance and strategic oversight to key portfolio matters.
Working closely with our partners across the community services sector and government, our areas of responsibility include: disability services, child protection, homelessness, prevention of family and domestic violence, seniors, volunteering, women’s interests and youth.
The Opportunity
As a Principal Policy Officer (Youth Team) you will provide strategic advice and undertake high level policy formulation and complex research and analysis in relation to the development of strategies and policies which build safe, strong, secure and inclusive communities.
The Youth Team has responsibility for the work undertaken in the Youth Portfolio which includes the following key focus areas:
1. Youth development – to support young people to attain life skills, develop the knowledge and confidence needed to be involved in community life and to respond to issues impacting their lives. A number of service agreements and grants are provided by Communities to support this.
2. Youth engagement – to provide opportunities for young people to be involved in decisions that affect them, whether this is at a State or local level.
3. Positive promotion of young people – initiatives that promote and value young people for who they are and the positive contributions they are making.
4. Advocating on behalf of the needs of young people – raising awareness with stakeholders of the needs of young people, particularly related to services and decisions that affect them.
There is currently one (1) permanent-full time position available for immediate filling.
