We are seeking an experienced Senior Risk Management Project Officer to support a major Defence related ICT capability program in Canberra.
This is not a standard Project Officer or PMO coordination role. We are specifically seeking candidates with demonstrated experience applying recognised Defence risk and benefits management frameworks within complex ICT acquisition, sustainment, and transition-to-operations environments.
You will work across a multi-phase Defence ICT program supporting governance activities, risk and benefits assurance, operational readiness, and stakeholder engagement across acquisition teams, sustainment organisations, and operational users.
Candidates must be willing to undergo ASD’s Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA), including psychological assessment requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain and enhance risk and benefits registers across acquisition, sustainment and operational lifecycle stages
• Conduct risk and benefits workshops with technical, operational and governance stakeholders
• Support governance forums through the preparation of dashboards, briefs and assurance reporting
• Identify, assess and monitor risks, issues, dependencies and opportunities across the program lifecycle
• Provide specialist advice regarding risk governance, benefits realisation and assurance processes
• Support transition-to-service and operational readiness activities
• Monitor mitigation activities and benefit realisation strategies across multiple program streams
• Identify opportunities to improve or modernise legacy risk and governance practices
Essential Experience
• Demonstrated Defence ICT risk management and governance experience within complex programs
• Practical application of ISO 31000, MSP, Defence Risk Management Frameworks, and Defence capability governance processes
• Experience supporting ICT acquisition, sustainment, or transition-to-operations activities
• Strong understanding of risk, benefits management and program assurance methodologies
• Experience engaging across technical, operational and executive stakeholder groups
• Ability to operate autonomously within highly secure and complex delivery environments
• Strong written communication skills with experience preparing governance and assurance documentation
Highly Regarded
• Defence ICT acquisition or sustainment experience
• Experience supporting complex system integration or operational capability delivery
• Qualifications or certifications in Risk Management, MSP, PRINCE2 or Program Governance
• Knowledge of ICT architecture, cybersecurity, or operational readiness environments
Security Requirements
• Australian Citizenship is mandatory
• Current NV1 Security Clearance required
• Candidates must be willing to complete ASD’s Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA)
• Canberra-based candidates strongly preferred due to onsite requirements
Please note:
This role is specifically targeted at professionals with genuine Defence risk governance and ICT capability assurance experience. Candidates with general project coordination or administration backgrounds without demonstrated Defence risk framework experience are unlikely to be suitable.
