About the Role
The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the annual program of activities and ensuring the smooth facilitation of all theatre and events production, technical, and event requirements.
Working closely with colleagues in the Programming Department based at HOTA, Home of the Arts, this role is the primary point of contact for all technical and production matters—from pre-planning through to delivery on stage. You will draw on your theatre, event and other relevant experience and adopt a flexible and solutions-focused mindset, with a respectful, collaborative approach to support creative outcomes and foster strong client relationships. This includes engaging with a diverse range of presenting companies, corporate clients, and internal stakeholders.
The Production Manager interprets and communicates artistic requirements, translating them into cost-effective technical solutions supported by clear and precise event documentation. Together with the Programming Department, you will help deliver projects that exceed expectations and strengthen the Precinct's reputation as a dynamic and supportive environment for artistic creation and presentation.
Responsibilities
Lead the technical planning process for safe, efficient, and cost-effective event delivery, ensuring hirer needs are met alongside artistic and business objectives, using established business tools.
Build and maintain proactive relationships with key stakeholders and service providers to balance competing needs and achieve operational outcomes.
Provide guidance and occasional mentoring to junior members of the Presenter Services team.
Follow best practice and contribute to departmental and organisational initiatives, projects, and strategic direction. Develop and implement procedures and standards that drive continuous improvement and strengthen operational collaboration between HOTA departments and hirers.
Coordinate and manage the provision of third-party services as required for events at HOTA.
Uphold a strong commitment to Work Health and Safety and contribute to a mentally healthy workplace.
Actively contribute to a positive team environment and consistently demonstrate HOTA's values.
Perform other duties as directed, commensurate with the level of the position.
Maintain flexibility in approach and availability, including occasional work outside standard contracted hours. (The salary reflects this requirement.)
Undertake additional related duties as directed by the Senior Production Manager within the scope of the role.
Qualifications and Experience
Proven production management experience in technical environments, including live theatre and events.
Strong project management skills with the ability to plan ahead, prioritise, and deliver multiple events to strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the capacity to translate creative requests into clear technical specifications.
Experience developing and managing event production budgets.
Ability to build strong working relationships and foster effective interdepartmental collaboration.
Proficiency in drafting technical drawings using Vectorworks (or equivalent).
Advanced computer skills, with experience in event management systems (e.g., Artifax) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and attention-to-detail skills.
