About the role


The Salvation Army's Kalgoorlie Youth Services is seeking a compassionate and engaging Drive for Life Instructor to support young people aged 16-25 who are working to overcome barriers and build independence. This role is ideal for someone with a background in youth work, social work, community services or similar fields, who is passionate about empowering young people and helping them develop confidence, capability and safe driving skills.

You will deliver learner driver education within a supportive, youth-centred environment, helping young people feel safe, encouraged and ready to take the next step toward their goals. Applicants with strong youth engagement skills are highly encouraged to apply.

This is a permanent, full-time position working 76 hours per fortnight. The roster is fixed across a fortnightly cycle and includes some afternoon and weekend shifts. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 4.

Fortnightly roster:

Week 1

* Monday 9:00am-5:00pm
* Tuesday 9:00am-5:00pm
* Wednesday 11:00am-9:00pm
* Thursday 11:00am-9:00pm

Week 2

* Monday 11:00am-9:00pm
* Tuesday 11:00am-9:00pm
* Friday 9:00am-5:00pm
* Saturday 8:00am-4:00pm
* Sunday 8:00am-4:00pm


How you will make an impact

* Build strong, trusting relationships with young people and create a safe, encouraging learning environment
* Support young people to develop confidence, independence and safe driving habits
* Deliver learner driver lessons and workshops in a calm, patient and youth-focused manner
* Tailor lesson plans to each young person's needs, pace and learning style
* Help young people understand road rules, safe driving behaviours and local driving routes
* Maintain accurate records of lessons, progress and mandatory driving hours
* Communicate regularly with participants to support engagement and celebrate progress
* Maintain program vehicles and report maintenance needs promptly
* Represent the Drive for Life program positively within the community


What you will bring

* Experience in youth work, social work, community services or a related field
* Ability to engage respectfully and effectively with young people experiencing disadvantage
* Understanding of trauma-informed practice and youth development
* Ability to travel to Laverton as required (overnight travel may be involved)
* Strong communication skills and the ability to build supportive, empowering relationships
* Confidence working independently within a structured roster
* Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office and data entry
* A current clean WA Manual Driver's Licence
* A minimum of three continuous years of driving experience
* Ability to pass the medical fitness standard required for a Driving Instructor's Licence
* First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
