Aircraft Mechanic III - AH-64
The AH-64 Aircraft Mechanic III performs the full range of military tactical aircraft maintenance, including repairs and modifications of aircraft structures and components of complex to extreme difficulty.
1. Maintain and repair aircraft components such as flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical parts.
2. Use technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to diagnose malfunctions and restore equipment functionality.
3. Interpret technical data, blueprints, and manuals to solve complex problems.
4. Document maintenance activities in aircraft logs and records; guide and provide technical expertise to lower-level technicians during modifications and maintenance.
5. Plan, conduct, and supervise aircraft inspections.
6. Compute weight and balance records.
7. Participate in maintenance test flights and operational checks as needed.
8. Ensure compliance with configuration control, oil analysis programs, and calibration of diagnostic equipment.
9. Guide lower-level technicians in repair and inspection techniques according to standards and policies.
10. Prepare evaluations, reports, and records related to aircraft maintenance activities.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* U.S. military technical school or specialized training; certification required.
* At least 5 years of aviation maintenance experience on the AH-64 within the past 6 years.
* Experience with maintenance, modification, and repair of tactical aircraft systems of the AH-64.
* FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License preferred.
* Possession of a U.S. Passport with at least 6 blank pages and validity of over 2 years for international travel.
* Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government SECRET Clearance; US Citizenship required for SECRET clearance.
Knowledge & Skills
* Thorough troubleshooting knowledge of aircraft mechanical components.
* Knowledge of sheet metal/structural modifications and repairs.
* Basic electrical theory; familiarity with aircraft tools and test equipment.
* Proficiency with technical publications and logistics systems.
* Ability to prioritize and lead teams on complex tasks.
* Experience in inspecting aeronautical maintenance.
* Technical guidance skills from supervisors or senior technicians.
Physical Requirements & Working Environment
* Ability to walk, stand, climb, crouch, crawl, and handle objects for extended periods.
* Lift objects over 50 pounds; work in noisy, dirty environments.
* Operate power tools, machinery, and support equipment.
* Wear PPE and pass respirator tests.
* Work outdoors or in maintenance shops, sometimes in drafty or extreme noise conditions.
