About the opportunity
The School of Life and Environmental Sciences is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Functional Genomics to apply and develop their research expertise in support of the Faculty's research agenda. Working under broad supervision, the role involves conducting high-quality research independently and as part of a collaborative research team, contributing specialist knowledge within the discipline, and providing expert advice as a key point of contact. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will exercise sound judgement in selecting appropriate research methods, planning and prioritising tasks, resolving routine research matters, and working with colleagues to address more complex challenges to deliver agreed research outcomes.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
* conduct high-quality research and scholarly or professional activity independently and collaboratively, contributing to the advancement of discipline knowledge
* develop and strengthen independent research capabilities under the guidance of senior academic staff
* provide informal mentoring and academic advice to students within the discipline
* contribute to administrative activities, projects, and participation in faculty/school meetings as required
* foster a positive, inclusive workplace culture that values collaboration, excellence, diversity of thought, and achievement of outcomes
* support and contribute to the university and faculty/school strategic priorities through research and professional activities.
About you

* a PhD functional genomics or a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience
* deep knowledge of venom mechanism of action and the use of high throughput screening systems (primarily functional pooled CRISPR screening) to identify new venome mechanisms of action
* experience using FACS-based Ca2+ screening systems
* experience conducting original research and/or engaging in scholarly activity evidenced by at least one first author publication in the field
* effective communication skills, including the ability to deliver presentations and provide high-quality customer service
* strong planning and organisational skills, with sound computer literacy
* developing networks with academic, industry, and professional partners and stakeholders.
