About the role: The Safety Officer will oversee health and safety practices on the project, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and safety standards, and fostering a safe working environment. Responsibilities
* Risk assessment and site inspections to identify hazards and implement corrective actions
* Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies in line with local regulations and safety standards
* Manage safety plans with contractors, oversee compliance, and enforce safety provisions
* Evaluate and approve safety plans and ensure contractors have required qualifications for high-risk tasks
* Incident management: investigate accidents, near-misses, and incidents; implement corrective actions
* Training and awareness: coordinate safety training for employees and contractors; promote a culture of safety
* Documentation and reporting: maintain records of inspections, risk assessments, incidents, and corrective actions
* Emergency preparedness: develop and test site emergency response plans and coordinate drills
* Collaboration: work with project managers, contractors, and stakeholders to minimize risks and ensure safety measures are followed
Qualifications
* Certification in Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) or equivalent
* At least 1–2 years of construction safety management experience
* Knowledge of local safety regulations and high-risk construction works operations
* Strong communication and problem-solving skills
* Ability to be physically present on site and wear personal protective equipment as required
* Willingness to work in varied weather conditions
