Case Worker – Family Law - Clerk Grade 6/7
Competitive Salary: $107,131 - $116,969pa (plus superannuation and leave loading) Ongoing Full Time Location: Newcastle (regular travel to Gosford may be required)
About Us Legal Aid NSW helps people with their legal problems. We can help people with most areas criminal law, family law and every day civil law legal issues. We give legal advice, help at court and do family dispute resolution. We can do this over the telephone or at one of our 28 offices. About The Role Provide support to clients going through family law and/or care and protection proceedings with complex social and legal needs including referral assistance, risk assessment, safety planning, support in attending Court as well as other services. Provide clinical expertise to address the socio-legal needs of victims of domestic and family violence, people experiencing mental health issues and/or with complex trauma histories. This role also provides service to the Gosford family law team and ability to travel is required. About You You bring a strong social science background and a commitment to understanding the legal system, enabling you to work autonomously as the sole allied professional within a team of solicitors. Confident with limited face-to-face support, you manage your own workload with initiative and resilience, offering informed consultations that contribute meaningfully to legal strategy and client outcomes. Your ability to build collaborative relationships with in-house legal staff allows you to develop holistic, culturally appropriate approaches to complex family law matters. Thriving in high-volume environments, you effectively navigate competing demands and rigid deadlines while maintaining a client-centred focus. You Must The Essential Requirements For This Role
5 years minimum relevant experience Diploma Level 5 and above (minimum 2 years study) be willing to do a Criminal Record Check and Working with Children Check hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency(for ongoing vacancies) live in NSW or willing to relocate to NSW some roles may require the ability for remote travel
The Family Law Division have several roles where it is a statutory obligation for staff to hold a valid Working with Children Check. You will be required to provide your Working with Children Check details prior to commencement in any role requiring the check. How To Apply You must submit your application online. Target Question 2: Briefly describe a time you worked within an inter-disciplinary team (e.g. with legal professionals, police, or community organisations) to support a vulnerable client. What strengths and skills did you contribute?
