The purpose of this position if to lead the delivery of effective and efficient technical and operational need for Civic Centre and Buchanan Park’s venues and venue hirers ensuring high quality production planning, resource management and building equipment and maintenance.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Knowledge of AV equipment and theatre flying systems lighting desks (Grand MA2) or LSC Clarity
and digital sound consoles (Allen and Heath GLD Series Digital Sound Console)
Extensive knowledge of theatre lighting and theatre riggings
Extensive knowledge of live audio and mixing a live large band
Extensive experience in live theatre, venue, production, events and performing/visual arts is
essential
Time management, prioritisation and organisational skills to complete tasks and meet deadlines
Significant and relevant lighting and sound experience for stage productions, maintenance and
repair of nonelectrical theatre equipment
Effective communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills to engage with a broad client
base and management of employees
Problem solving skills and experience in resolving technical problems prior to escalating to the
Manager
Proven experience operating audio-visual events
Outstanding customer service skills
Ability to motivate and lead a team- able to manage the expectations and demands of a number
of people and effectively communicate ideas and needs to them
Highly self motivated
Ability to think on your feet and work under pressure/tight deadlines
Adaptability to improvise when faced with unexpected situations
Use Microsoft Office Suite and operate Council’s corporate business systems
Qualifications
The below qualifications are preferable. Additional on the Job training considered.
Certificate IV in Live Production, Theatre and Events (Technical Operations) with relevant
knowledge, skills and experience leading work teams and applying Work, Health and Safety in the work environment
Elevated Work Platform Rescue GRC
Experience and competency operating under a current LF Forklift Truck High Risk Work Licence
Intermediate rigging (RB) High Risk Work Licence
Confined space advanced
Working at Heights
First Aid and CPR
Load restraint and secure cargo
Elevated work platform under 11 metres or over 11 metres
Current “C” class Driver’s Licence or ability to acquire a licence prior to commencing in the role

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical
To ensure the smooth running of the technical aspects of Civic Centre and Buchanan Park’s
events day-to-day operation
Effectively manage systems, equipment and other resources; supervise and train, as required,
other personnel
Operate sound, lighting and other effecting during performances, as requested by event hirers or
directed by the Manager Economic and Community Development.
Design and operate theatre systems, lighting, audio, audio visual and mechanical to meet user
expectation and requirements.
Ensure production standards for all events meet expectations
Liaise with management, hirers and other stakeholders regarding technical requirements and
availability and solve technical problems when required.
Organise the rigging and setting of lighting, setting up of sound equipment, acquiring and setting
masking etc. on stage.
Furnish rehearsals with appropriate lighting, sound, staging, vision systems and scenery as
needed.
Apply appropriate slinging and hanging techniques using cranes and/or hoists for staging and
installing lighting systems above stages
To carry out, or oversee the carrying out of, Portable Appliance Testing (PAT, a safety measure)
of equipment.
Work from heights and carry out safe and efficient operations of an elevated work platform with
a boom lift under 11 meters.
Required to control a confined space in accordance with legislation and training in the
performance of duties
Perform rescues and act as a first responder providing first aid and/or CPR in the event of an
accident and/or injury
Work with other members of staff in the event of an emergency
Ensure that cargo and loads are securely restrained prior to transporting
Facility Management and Maintenance
Ensure equipment inventories and service logs are maintained and make recommendations to
purchase additional or replacement equipment or maintain existing equipment, where required and within the allocated budget.
Assist the Manager Economic and Community Development and contribute to the maintenance
budget in relation to technical equipment.
Coordinate and schedule the maintenance of audio visual equipment and ensure it complies with
asset management procedure.
Assist with theatre facilities management, identify and report on maintenance faults and provide
specialist advice.
Customer Service
Provide a high level of customer service in all audio and visual services at Civic Centre and
Buchanan Park and other Council owned properties
Carry out professional quoting of all external equipment hire or audio visual
Contribute to the promotion of the image of Council and the maximisation of good public
relations
Assist the Manager and undertake other duties as requested
Other Duties
Supervise and delegate tasks and monitor workload and schedules of technical employees
Provide on the job specific training and coasting to technical employees as required
Provide leadership, guidance, mentoring and assistance to technicians, volunteers and trainees
Maximise revenue from hire of facilities, labour and equipment
Keep abreast of changes in health and safety legislation
To carry out all duties in accordance with the MICC’s Health & Safety Policy and promote a
culture of safety.

Physical Requirements
It is an inherit requirement of the position to be able to frequently lift weights up to10 kg.
Work outdoors in most weather conditions.
Sit continuously for extended periods of time.
Walk on uneven terrain.
This position requires the incumbent to maintain a level of fitness to be capable of carrying out the physical requirements of the position.
Out-of-ordinary hours work may be required. Council reserves the right to change these duties at any time.
