Croydon Special Developmental School is a school for students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities.

Students are aged between 4.8 and 18 years and are grouped in classes according to age and student needs. Individual Education Programs are provided for all students in the school by a multi-disciplinary team including parents/care givers, teachers and education support staff, including allied health staff. The school has four sections - Early Education, Junior, Primary, Secondary and Transition.
We have a comprehensive and challenging curriculum based on the Victorian Curriculum A-D and emphasis on particular curriculum areas relates directly to individual needs, abilities and interests. Classrooms are staffed with Special Education trained teachers and teacher assistants. There are specialist staff allocated to Hydrotherapy/Swimming, PE and Library. Whilst communication forms the core of the curriculum, where appropriate, emphasis is also placed on independent living skills, social behaviour, functional academic skills and recreation. An allied health team consisting of a physiotherapist, speech pathologists, an occupational therapist and allied health assistants also supports students' to participate in their educational program. The school also supports the health and welfare of students by employing a nurse and a family support coordinator.
**Selection Criteria**:
SC1 Demonstrated ability to proactively undertake a range of maintenance duties including some trade experience relevant to the role.
SC2 Ability to use sound organisational skills to identify, prioritise and address maintenance and grounds issues as they arise.
SC3 Demonstrated capacity to work effectively as both a member of a team and independently, to undertake necessary maintenance and grounds tasks.

**Role**:
The Facilities Maintenance and grounds person will, under the direction of the Principal/Assistant Principal or the Business Manager, be responsible for the maintenance of buildings and associated structures, to ensure that all ground areas are maintained regularly. Ensure weekly, monthly and annual tasks are performed within timelines as identified in AIMS. Undertake required training/professional development should it be required
**Responsibilities**:
The responsibilities of the Grounds -Maintenance position include but are not limited to:
- Maintaining and improving the school grounds, facilities and buildings
- Ensure safety is maintained within the work area when completing tasks
- Undertaking regular routine inspections and identify issues requiring maintenance.
- Undertaking routine repairs, cleaning and maintenance of the facilities.
- Maintaining all doors, gates and locks to a safe standard.
- Work with contractors to attend to tasks that require registered tradespeople and ensure OHS requirements in relation to sub-contractors are met.
- Undertaking small building projects and painting as required.
- Repairing /maintaining furniture as required.
- Move furniture and equipment as required
- Liaising with the Business Manager\Assistant Prin on a regular basis.
- Supporting staff in relocating furniture and equipment.
- Ensure that tools and equipment are in a serviceable condition.
- Ensure that the maintenance sheds are always clean and orderly in accordance with OH&S principles
- Working together with the management team to ensure that occupational health & safety requirements are met
