At Swinburne, our Finance Business Partners play a critical role in shaping the future of the University. This is not just about numbers, it's about influence, strategy, and impact. As a trusted advisor to senior leaders and Executive Group Members, you'll provide evidence-based insights that inform key decisions and translate financial performance into forward-looking advice to optimise resources, unlock opportunities, and deliver long-term value. You'll guide portfolios on budgets, forecasts, and multi-year planning, evaluate new initiatives, partnerships, and capital investments, and be at the centre of the University's strategic agenda. You'll champion Finance transformation, digital innovation, and continuous improvement to drive change and support Swinburne's 2026 Strategy.
About You
You're a strategic partner who thrives on collaboration, influence, and impact. You connect financials to strategy and advise executives on risks and opportunities. You have significant experience in financial management within a large, complex organisation. With a CA/CPA qualification, you combine strong technical skills in budgeting, forecasting, and analysis with the ability to simplify complexity and communicate with impact. You are digitally savvy, commercially minded, and confident using ERP systems, reporting tools, and analytics platforms. You are resilient, adaptable, and capable of delivering results under pressure while building trusted relationships across diverse stakeholder groups. You are motivated by shaping decisions, influencing outcomes, and delivering sustainable growth and innovation at Swinburne.
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
* Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and Executive Group Members, providing evidence-based insights to inform strategic and operational decisions.
* Participate in portfolio leadership meetings, presenting financial performance, risks, and forward-looking insights.
* Influence resource allocation and investment choices to ensure value-for-money and alignment with University strategy.
* Collaborate with Product Management, Pricing, and Costing teams to provide costings, pricing, scenario analysis, and commercial evaluations for new initiatives, partnerships, and tenders.
* Partner with portfolio leaders and senior finance leaders to develop the annual budget and quarterly forecasts.
* Contribute to rolling forecasts and multi-year financial planning models aligned with strategic objectives.
* Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across academic and professional portfolios.
* Ensure compliance with accounting standards (AASB), government requirements, and University policies.
Qualifications
* An undergraduate degree with a major in accounting or similar discipline, with subsequent relevant experience
* Membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (CAANZ) or Certified Practicing Accountant Australia (CPA)
