We are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant - Special Needs for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

John Curtin College of the Arts (JCCA) is a leader in public education. Our commitment is to not only build capacity in students’ academic pursuits but to make each child the very best person they can be by celebrating achievements in all facets of education, using creativity to promote excellence and nurture wellbeing.

Our college caters for 1800 students from Years 7 to 12. Our programs reflect our belief that all students are individual and come with different learning needs. We offer learning experiences that motivate and extend students academically through our Gifted and Talented Secondary Selective Entrance Arts Programs in Ballet, Contemporary Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music, Music Theatre and Visual Arts, as well as a school-based Academic Excellence Program. We are a Perth Glory Academy School and our Specialist Football Program is well renowned.

We use the Arts as a vehicle for student engagement and motivation. The Arts at John Curtin is as much about providing dynamic opportunities for all students (each year we produce over 100 performances/exhibitions) as it is about developing transferable life skills such as empathy, creative and critical thinking, collaboration and the ability to communicate, all important attributes for any future pathway.

The Role

As a Special Needs Education Assistant, you will work under the direction of a teacher to support education programs and help create a supportive, inclusive learning environment. You will assist in delivering planned programs that enable students to reach their full potential by developing their academic, social, emotional, and physical skills. This includes supporting students in the use of computers and digital technologies. You will also provide feedback on educational and therapy programs as required and take part in evaluating students’ progress toward their individual goals.

You should have robust interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff to meet the diverse needs of students. Ideally, you will have knowledge and experience working with students who have a range of disabilities and learning difficulties, along with the ability to support their academic and social growth within the classroom.

You will also need the ability to work effectively with twice-exceptional students and assist in delivering planned programs that support their unique learning needs. Experience and/or qualifications in outdoor education programs and activities are desirable.
