About the opportunity With the continued growth of our Melbourne office, we are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Principal / Senior Principal Heritage Advisor to lead and expand our Victorian heritage practice. This role offers the chance to shape the direction of major projects and play a pivotal part in building strong, respectful, and enduring relationships with clients, Traditional Owner groups and key stakeholders. You’ll have the scope to influence the heritage discipline nationally, deliver innovative cultural heritage solutions, and contribute to the long-term success of both the Melbourne team and Eco Logical Australia’s broader heritage services. About you The Principal/Senior Principal Heritage Advisor role in Melbourne is a senior technical leadership position whose primary role is to grow the Victorian-based cultural heritage business and provide high level strategic advice to private and government-based clients responsible for large infrastructure projects regarding their Aboriginal cultural heritage planning and approval requirements. The purpose of the role (including relevant responsibilities) is to: In partnership with the Heritage Team Lead (Melbourne), the Victorian Operations Manager and ELA’s Heritage Discipline Lead, lead the strategic development of the heritage discipline in Victoria and nationally. Identify, develop and pursue new business opportunities and contribute to winning new work in collaboration with other ELA staff. Look to new and innovative opportunities for heritage services outside of ELA’s existing product offer. In partnership with the Heritage Team Lead (Melbourne), lead the delivery of quality heritage services within agreed timeframes and budgets to client satisfaction. Be a member of the Principal pool of consultants in ELA taking responsibility for Project Directorship and the technical review of cultural heritage reports. Work across the ELA business nationally to promote cultural heritage services internally, in partnership with other Tetra Tech businesses including Tetra Tech Coffey and RPS, and externally. Contribute to the success of ELA by winning, managing and delivering large cultural heritage projects. Develop, nurture and manage your own portfolio of clients in Victoria. To be considered for the Principal/Senior Principal Heritage Advisor role you will have: An Honours degree or higher in archaeology, specialising in Indigenous Australian archaeology and/or cultural heritage. Extensive knowledge of and experience in the practical application of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 and Aboriginal Heritage Regulations 2018 to large infrastructure projects requiring, EES/EIS technical studies and/or cultural heritage management plans (CHMPs). At least 15 years previous experience working as a consultant and/or working for relevant State or Commonwealth government agencies. Demonstrated project management experience, including preparing successful fee proposals and managing project budgets in excess of $250k. Extensive experience in leading the preparation of Aboriginal cultural heritage due diligence reports, Aboriginal cultural heritage management plans (CHMPs) and Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Permits (CHPs). Extensive experience in managing large Aboriginal archaeological surveys, field assessments and excavation programs (including CHMP complex assessments and post-approval salvage excavation programs). Extensive demonstrated experience in working with Registered Aboriginal Parties and Traditional Owner groups, including community consultation and knowledge of formal consultation processes. An ability and desire to share your genius and provide training/mentoring in your area of expertise. Sound written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others both internally and externally. Demonstrated ability to write CHMPs and EES/EIS Aboriginal cultural heritage technical reports through to final approval by the evaluating authority. A current Victorian driver’s licence.
