About the Role As an Intensive Care Medicine Registrar at Monash Health, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care within our dynamic ICU teams. Under the guidance of your Unit Head/Consultant, your responsibilities will include: Comprehensive Patient Care: Manage critically ill patients by conducting thorough assessments, formulating diagnoses, and implementing management plans. Procedural Expertise: Perform and supervise procedures relevant to patient care, ensuring adherence to training and competency standards. After-Hours Support: Participate in the after-hours and "Standby on-call "rosters, maintaining consistent care standards. Interdepartmental Collaboration: Assist in the assessment and management of critically ill patients across various hospital departments, including the Anaesthetic Recovery Room, Medical Emergency Team (MET) calls, hospital wards, and the Emergency Department. Admissions Coordination: Work closely with the Admitting Officer for ICU admissions, including patients referred from external facilities. Effective Communication: Ensure timely and clear clinical communication, including handovers and escalation of care issues to consultants. Quality Improvement: Demonstrate commitment to quality and safety initiatives, including participation in at least one audit activity during your tenure, with consultant mentorship provided. About Our ICUs Dandenong ICU: A 14-bed Level 2 major metropolitan unit, accredited by the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) for unlimited training, managing over 1,600 patients annually. Casey ICU: A state-of-the-art 12-bed facility opened in February 2020, providing care for over 1,200 patients per year and accredited for 6 months of general training by CICM. Both units are recognized for components of other specialty training programs and emphasize teaching, research, and quality indicators. Weekly activities include teaching sessions, audits, and morbidity and mortality meetings. Opportunities are available to participate in general ultrasound and point-of-care echocardiography, tailored to individual needs. Monash Health is committed to Organ, Eye & Tissue Donation and provides support to other departments through its External Liaison Services. The ICUs also manage Code Blue and MET services. Rotations Depending on individual trainee needs and eligibility, rotations will be offered by SOTs which may include: Regional/Rural Anaesthetics and Medicine: Bass Coast Health Rural/Regional ICU: Latrobe Regional Hospital (LRH) Tertiary ICU: Monash Medical Centre (MMC) and Victorian Heart Hospital (VHH) Trauma ICU: The Alfred Hospital Contract Details We offer 12-month contracts, with the possibility of extension for an additional 12-24 months upon negotiation.
