We're partnering with a large Queensland Government department seeking an experienced System Administrator to help manage and evolve their enterprise virtualisation and storage environment.
This role sits within a high-performing Storage & Virtualisation team that underpins the digital infrastructure powering multiple state government agencies. What you'll be doing
* Administer and optimise VMware vSphere ESXi / vCenter and Aria Suite (with transition to VCF 9 )
* Support virtual desktop and backup/recovery platforms across large-scale environments
* Manage enterprise NAS and Fibre Channel SAN infrastructure
* Support cloud storage technologies – Azure Files, Azure Blob, AWS S3
* Troubleshoot incidents, respond to service requests, and engage with vendors when needed
* Deliver infrastructure patches, upgrades, and lifecycle refreshes
* Automate, script, and streamline — using PowerShell or Linux scripting
* Keep documentation sharp and accurate
* Be part of duty and on‑call rosters, ensuring uptime for critical systems
What we're looking for
* Strong hands‑on experience with VMware vSphere ESXi & vCenter (v7 or v8)
* Solid Linux administration background (ideally Red Hat Enterprise )
* Scripting ability — PowerShell or Bash for automation and data collection
* Understanding of backup, NAS, and SAN fundamentals
* Exposure to server hardware (firmware updates, troubleshooting, vendor liaison)
Bonus points for
* Experience with VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), NSX, Aria Automation, or Omnissa Horizon
* Knowledge of HPE Synergy, Brocade SAN, PureStorage, Hitachi, or DELL Isilon
* Familiarity with DELL Avamar, PowerProtect, or Data Domain
* Experience with Terraform, GitHub, or Visual Studio
* Cloud integration experience (AWS / Azure storage services)
