Farm Manager – WA College of Agriculture, Narrogin
Salary: Level 6, $120,457 – $132,753 per annum (pro-rata). Work Type: Fixed Term – Full Time. FTE: 1. Location: Narrogin. Closing Date: ************:30 PM.
This is a 4-month fixed-term, full-time position commencing as soon as possible.
About the College
The College operates a ****-ha farm with several commercial scale enterprises, offering students practical experience in broad-acre cropping, beef, sheep, poultry, farm workshop and general maintenance.
As a Registered Training Organisation, the college delivers the Western Australian Certificate of Education alongside other qualifications.
The Role
Our ideal applicant will be an innovative leader with current farming knowledge and experience relevant to the College farm, passionate about training in an agricultural context, with excellent communication and organisational skills, prioritisation, delegation and staff-management abilities.
With the farm leadership team, the Farm Manager oversees the ****-ha farm, including cropping, beef, sheep, poultry, horticulture, Suffolk sheep stud, farm workshop, general farm activities and meat processing. The role coordinates with the Principal, Agricultural Advisory Committee, Assistant Farm Managers and Agricultural Training Officers to develop, implement and review farm policies and plans.
The Farm Manager also manages substantial financial resources, preparing budgets, maintaining accurate records of production data, and overseeing human resources—including induction, performance and leave management—in accordance with relevant awards and departmental policy.
They share an on-call role with the Assistant Farm Manager and receive an allowance for this responsibility.
Responsibilities
Oversee farm operations across all enterprises.
Develop, implement and review farm policies and plans.
Manage the farm budget and financial resources.
Maintain accurate production and financial records.
Induct, manage and assess staff performance and leave entitlements.
Share an on-call duty with the Assistant Farm Manager.
Qualifications and Experience
Demonstrated significant experience and competency in the management of a large or multifaceted agricultural enterprise/farm, relevant to the college requirements.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of AQTF requirements for a Registered Training Organisation and ability to deliver and assess effective training programmes in agriculture and related areas.
Demonstrated experience in financial accountability, including budget preparation, monitoring and reporting.
Demonstrated ability to prepare, implement and manage business plans and to provide comprehensive reports.
Demonstrated well-developed written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, and ability to provide leadership, establish and maintain effective working relationships within a team environment.
Demonstrated leadership ability, including supervising and developing staff and adhering to occupational safety and health requirements in an agricultural setting.
Eligibility
Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a valid visa with work rights for the term of the appointment.
Valid Working With Children Check before starting.
Consent to a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before starting.
