Over the past 7 years, CSR has transitioned its energy management approach, purchasing energy products directly from AEMO managed markets and building sustainability consciousness into its energy processes. This role is critical to managing energy security for our businesses, while continuing to evolve and improve energy management with changing markets
This key role spans from energy strategy and sourcing, through to working with key internal stakeholders to innovating around planning, costing, and the use of energy. Building on the work so far, to directly manage costs, sourcing, and risks using wholesale markets, you will continue a process of market driven innovation. Together with businesses and the Sustainability team, you will work to support the drive to achieve CSR's 2030 sustainability goals for energy and carbon.
**Key responsibilities will include**:
- Establish framework, policies & process to enable strategic energy procurement (electricity & gas sourcing), including risk management
- Work with business stakeholders to influence their operating decisions, ensure they have a detailed understanding of the cost of energy for budgets, and for forecasts throughout the year, and ensure real time information on pricing developments that might affect the day-to-day operating decisions is available to decision makers, and assist them in the development of operational plans to respond to energy markets
- Proactively manage relationships with external energy sources, through to negotiating contracts with key wholesale gas suppliers into AEMO gas markets, as well as run related ancillary services such as distributors, metering, and information analytics, and implement and negotiate agreements
- Work with CSR Treasury & Energy Operations to manage price exposure via financial markets; deliver ongoing analysis on pricing and risks to support decision making, using risk and other tools or developing additional software as needed for analytical decision making; as well as interactions with AEMO and the various market operations for day-to-day electricity and gas supply.
- Prepare Board and Finance Committee papers for decision making
- Work with internal stakeholders to manage energy exposure and support achieving CSR's 2030 Sustainability goals
- Mentor and influence the organisation to achieve strategic and operational goals for the better management of energy
- Participate in industry groups e.g., Manufacturing Australia, to ensure CSR's interests are represented
You will be a self-starter, who is driven and committed to the goals, able to build relationships across the business with key internal and external stakeholders, with a track record of working constructively to achieve outcomes. You will have an analytical mind-set, able to identify opportunities for improvement, and implementing to achieve results. You will build on the progress achieved so far, to drive further innovation and improvement in the management of energy.
**Additionally, you will also have the following**:
- Minimum 10 years' experience in Energy markets, both gas and electricity, and have a deep understanding of developments in the areas of electricity and gas
- A degree in Engineering/Electrical Engineering or other relevant area
- Extensive knowledge & understanding of energy markets in gas and electricity, AEMO rules concerning the gas markets and the NEM, developments in relevant legislation, legal issues, and corporate policies
- Experience managing wholesale Gas Supply Agreements - including an understanding of the key gas suppliers and avenues to market, management of forecasts, nominations, overruns & gas transport arrangement. Negotiation skills whether on contracts or more broadly
- Strong analytic & strategic capabilities: Able to demonstrate complex problem-solving and able to recognise & act on opportunities
- Highly developed leadership, influencing, contract negotiation and consultation skills
- Demonstrated capability in innovatively developing & implementing strategies on continuous improvement initiatives (whilst utilising commercial acumen)
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities
- Self-starter, highly motivated and proactive
- Systems skills: Advanced VBA, C#, C++ (highly desirable), knowledge of statistical packages, such as R, and desire to grow this experience
