About Service NSW
Service NSW is at the forefront of transforming how people and businesses access government services. Since launching in 2013, we’ve delivered simpler, faster and more secure services through world-class digital platforms, supported by an award-winning culture of collaboration, innovation and customer focus.
Cyber Security plays a critical role in protecting trust in government services. As part of our Cyber Security team, you’ll help safeguard some of the most important digital products used by millions of people across NSW.
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Principal Cyber Security Advisor to provide expert cyber security advisory services across complex, cloud-hosted digital products. You will lead cyber security reviews, influence secure-by-design outcomes, and uplift cyber risk maturity across Service NSW and partner agencies.
You will work closely with product teams, architects, engineers and senior stakeholders to identify, assess and treat cyber risks—ensuring security enables, rather than blocks, digital innovation.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will:
* Lead end to end cyber security reviews of digital products, including threat modelling, architecture and code reviews, and penetration testing, to identify and treat cyber risks
* Provide expert advisory services across cyber risk management, secure cloud and application security, including quantifying and reporting risks in line with NSW Government frameworks
* Advise on digital identity, authentication and authorisation models, including the security of verifiable credentials, identity assurance and trust frameworks
* Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, clearly communicating complex security issues, while mentoring others and uplifting organisational cyber capability
About you
You are a senior cyber security professional who thrives in complex environments and enjoys influencing outcomes at scale. You balance strong technical depth with excellent stakeholder engagement skills and can translate security risks into clear, actionable advice.
You will bring:
* Extensive experience in cyber security advisory, risk management or application security
* Proven hands-on experience with threat modelling for modern, cloud-based digital products
* Strong knowledge of digital identity, including IAM, identity assurance, authentication patterns and privacy considerations
* Experience working with or assessing verifiable credentials, decentralised identity or trust frameworks (highly desirable)
* Deep understanding of cyber risk, security architecture and secure-by-design principles
* Experience working in large, complex organisations or government environments (desirable)
* Relevant qualifications in Computer Science or certifications including CISSP, CISA, GIAC or CEH
Why work with us?
* Work on high-impact digital services used by millions of people across NSW
* Influence whole-of-government cyber security outcomes
* Flexible working arrangements and a supportive, inclusive culture
