The Audit Office of South Australia is the independent auditor of the South Australian public sector. Our Office reports directly to the South Australian Parliament on the audits of the finances, systems and processes of both state and local government agencies.

About the role:
The Deputy Audit Manager works in a small team within the Financial Audit Branch. The branch is responsible for planning, conducting and reporting on independent audits.
As a Deputy Audit Manager you will work closely with a Principal Audit Manager to provide the day-to-day co-ordination and monitoring of audits and reviews conducted by an audit team, your duties will include:
- coordinating and professionally supervising the audit team
- assisting in the planning, conduct and reporting on a portfolio of financial compliance audits, reviews of internal controls and issues of importance and interest in the public sector
- assisting in the planning, conduct and reporting of extended reviews of issues in the public sector, to promote the best use of public sector resources
- conducting specified agency audits, consistent with agency audit plans, and reporting obligations
- liaising regularly with senior managers in public sector agencies
- reviewing working papers, submitted by less experienced staff, to provide quality assurance.

The expectation is that you will be appointed at the ASO5 salary level. Consideration will be given to a higher salary if you can demonstrate higher level skills and experience (see the role description for details).
During the audit report period, you will be working additional hours, and compensation is provided.
About you:
To be successful in this role, you need to have:
- demonstrated experience in applying accounting and auditing standards and practices
- demonstrated experience in interpreting legislation
- understanding of and ability to apply government accountability frameworks
- sound leadership skills
- demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, in particular a record of communicating complex and/or sensitive concepts and issues effectively
- demonstrated ability to develop and maintain client relationships.
Salary:
$85,790 pa - $95,413 pa (ASO5 classification level) plus 12% superannuation
Essential requirements:
- Completed a Bachelor level degree in accounting or commerce (majoring in accounting), recognised in Australia under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
- Must have commenced the professional accounting program for full membership of a professional accounting body, either CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (through their accredited tertiary degree entry pathways).
