Overview
We are seeking a highly organised, motivated, and professional Legal Assistant to join our growing practice. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives in a team-oriented environment and is looking to broaden their skills across multiple areas of law.
As a Legal Assistant, you will work closely with other Legal Assistants, Senior Solicitors, and our in-house Conveyancer to provide high-quality legal and administrative support. This role offers exposure to a wide variety of matters, including probate, civil litigation, conveyancing, and some criminal law matters, allowing you to gain invaluable experience in diverse practice areas.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as a first point of contact for clients, handling enquiries professionally and confidentially.
* Draft and prepare client correspondence, legal documents, and court forms.
* Provide clear updates to clients on the progress of their matters.
* Assist Senior Solicitors and Conveyancers in day-to-day case management.
* Manage client files from opening to closure, ensuring all documents are properly filed and accessible.
* Perform accurate data entry and maintain electronic case management systems.
* Prepare settlement statements, contracts, wills, affidavits, and other key legal documents.
* Probate: Draft probate applications, liaise with executors, and assist with estate administration.
* Civil Law: Assist in preparing pleadings, affidavits, and briefing materials for barristers.
* Conveyancing: Coordinate property settlements, lodge documents, and handle client queries.
* Criminal Law: Support solicitors in preparing briefs, liaise with police and courts, and assist clients.
* Court and Agency Liaison: File and serve documents at courts, tribunals, and with relevant agencies.
* Manage court deadlines and assist with scheduling appearances.
* Work closely and collaboratively with other Legal Assistants, sharing workload and knowledge.
* Provide direct support to Senior Solicitors and the Conveyancer, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently.
* Attend and actively contribute to team meetings and training sessions.
Skills and Qualifications
* Previous experience as a Legal Assistant or similar legal administrative role is highly regarded.
* Strong understanding of legal processes and terminology across different areas of law (probate, civil, conveyancing, criminal).
* Excellent organisational and time-management skills with the ability to handle competing priorities.
* High level of written and verbal communication skills with strong client service focus.
* Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and legal practice management software.
* High attention to detail, accuracy, and discretion when handling sensitive information.
