The opportunity
We are in the market for a suitably qualified, motivated and enthusiastic Industrial Relations Legal Specialist to provide specialist advice on industrial relations matters in the workplace.
Working as part of the People Services team, the Industrial Relations Legal Specialist will be responsible for researching and providing complex legal advice to the Manager People Services and Director Business Services on current employment and industrial matters for the City. You will monitor organisational change processes and undertake complex investigations for disciplinary and/or complaints and assist in negotiations and consultations with unions and other external bodies. You will also provide advice and support in the development and implementations of the City’s Workforce Plan, Industrial Agreement and policies.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Bachelor of Laws degree (mandatory) and practising certificate (or willingness and ability to obtain)
- 7 years’ experience working in HR / IR, preferably in a Local Government and/or unionised environment.
- Ability to investigate employee matters in relation to employee complaints or other disputes.
- Knowledge of, and experience in, general employment law and HR best practice.
- Sound analytical, interpretive, problem-solving, and dispute resolution skills.
- Ability to effectively prioritise requests while maintaining high standards and accuracy.
- Ability to coach, lead and educate leaders around good people practice.
- Knowledge of WHS legislation and regulation
