Key Responsibilities

* Provide specialist advice to regional staff on cultural heritage management and compliance issues in the development of road investment strategies, road link studies, the planning and design of road improvement projects and the construction and maintenance phases of regional operations.
* Provide input and advice on regional and state-wide cultural heritage issues.
* Establish and maintain liaison and consultation with other Cultural Heritage Officers to ensure cultural heritage management consistency among regions where appropriate.
* Promote, foster and maintain effective relationships with other agencies and organisations concerned with the management of cultural heritage issues in the state controlled road reserve.
* Assist with the coordination of the region's legislative obligations for cultural heritage.
* Lead in-house assessments for cultural heritage studies and impact assessment studies to meet departmental and legislative requirements.
* Ensure the cultural heritage impacts of development applications meet legislative and departmental requirements.
* Participate and represent the region and the department on various external working committees.
* Project manage and or conduct research and development projects on transport related cultural heritage issues as required.
* Lead the development and implementation of policies, methodologies, standards and specifications across regional functional units to maximise cultural heritage activities and outcomes.
* Develop and deliver cultural heritage training for regional staff and associated stakeholders and monitor their implementation and effectiveness.
* Develop responses to ministerial and public enquiries in relation to transportrelated cultural heritage issues and to other government departments on their cultural heritage initiatives.
* Lead, coach and mentor support staff, and ensure appropriate skills sets and training needs are identified and developed through the Achievement Planning and Review process.


Mandatory Qualifications And Conditions

* Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.
* Degree qualification from a tertiary institute in archaeology, anthropology, social science, or an equivalent qualification.
* A current Class 'C' Drivers Licence.


Requirements Of The Role

* Desirable: Demonstrated experience in leading a team of professional staff.
* Desirable: Extensive experience in a related role is considered necessary for success in this role.
* Desirable: Significant experience in the cultural heritage aspects in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of linear infrastructure.
* Desirable: Advanced technical abilities in archaeology and/or cultural heritage management.
* Demonstrated experience in leading cultural heritage management initiatives for infrastructure projects.
