Apprentice Gardener
Fixed Term Full Time
Salary: 1st Year 55% of Band 3 salary - $37,464.28 per annum plus industry allowance and 12% superannuation.
Adult apprentices will be paid no less than the weekly minimum rate for Band 3 Level A.

About This Role
Latrobe City Council is excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a motivated individual to begin their career in horticulture as an Apprentice Gardener.
This role combines hands-on, real-world experience with formal study, allowing you to earn while you learn as you work towards completing a Certificate III in Horticulture. You'll play an active role in maintaining and enhancing gardens, landscaped areas and wetlands across the Latrobe City community—helping to create green, welcoming spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy.
As an Apprentice Gardener, you will be supported by an experienced and friendly team while developing practical skills and industry knowledge. Your work will include:
* Learning horticultural maintenance and plant care, including pest control and the safe use of tools and equipment
* Assisting with garden, landscaping and specialised maintenance works on Council parks, open spaces and infrastructure
* Working collaboratively as part of a team to deliver high-quality outcomes for the community
* Participating in the Latrobe City Performance Development Plan (PDP) and assessment process to support your learning and development
About You
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors and is keen to build a career in horticulture. To be successful, you will have:
* Eligibility to undertake a Certificate III in Horticulture
* A genuine interest in gardening, landscaping and the natural environment
* A positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn
* Good communication, literacy and numeracy skills
* The ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute to shared goals
Pre-Employment Requirements
All successful applicants must:
* Successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment
* Hold a valid Employee Working with Children Check
* Apply for and satisfactorily obtain a National Police Check
