Job Title: BUABAH Support Specialist
The Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency supports and advocates for the Aboriginal community. Our strength lies with our people.
We promote thriving, connected families and reduce the need for Child Protection involvement in Aboriginal families' lives through the Bringing Up Aboriginal Babies at Home (BUABAH) model. This model works to support families from early in gestation into early infancy.
As a BUABAH Practitioner, you will work closely with an Aboriginal Early Years practitioner and specialist practice leads. You will link families with maternity and birth supports, key partners, and stakeholders to provide a wraparound response to address identified needs. You will empower families to share their story their way through culturally appropriate and trauma-informed engagement.
You must be committed to the values that underpin VACCA's vision and purpose. You should have a well-developed understanding of the impact of colonisation, intergenerational trauma, and other issues affecting Aboriginal families, children, and young people.
You must be able to work in a culturally respectful and competent manner with Aboriginal families and communities to ensure cultural connections are fostered and maintained. You should apply evidence-informed practice approaches including Cultural and Common Elements framework. You should have an in-depth understanding of pregnancy, birth, and infancy and be able to support families through these stages.
You must develop trusting relationships with families, set goals, and work towards achieving them. You should demonstrate experience in supporting other staff through informed and constructive feedback. Requirements include a Valid Police Check, a Working with Children's Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain), and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination is strongly recommended.
