Creative industries technician

Offer description

The position supports the Creative Industries educational program to ensure all facets of the textiles environment operates efficiently. The role incorporates maintaining equipment and materials.

This is a part time position and the salary on offer is $84,639 per annum (pro-rata three days per week), excluding superannuation.

Key Responsibilities

* Ensure all textiles rooms, storerooms, trolleys and cupboards in the department are stocked and organised.
* Ordering and managing classroom supplies.
* Assist in the preparation of materials for classes.
* Assist with planning, preparing and delivering quality creative activities with the class teachers within a safe and caring environment.
* Maintain larger pieces of equipment e.g. industrial sewing machine.
* Photograph completed artworks, workshops and activities as requested by classroom teachers.
* Assisting with planning, organising, hanging and executing school Creative Industries events and exhibitions.

Skills and Experience

* Ability to work independently and efficiently in a busy Department.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to prioritise competing work demands and work to deadlines.
* Demonstrated rapport and understanding of the needs of school students.
* Strong knowledge of garment construction, pattern cutting and pattern drafting.
* Experience in a range of textile techniques such as dyeing, felting, embroidery, printing, quilting, knitting, crochet, and fabric manipulation.
* Technical expertise in the Textiles/Fashion industry, or relevant links to the wider Arts community.

* Willing to work out of normal hours if necessary.

* Demonstrated ability to foster and promote positive relationships with all stakeholders.
