**Our School**

Boarding at Ballarat Clarendon College is an integral part of our school. A community of approximately 150 boarders, within both our Girls and Boys Boarding Houses, enables us to offer personalised support in a compassionate and homely environment.

The Boarding Houses offer a unique learning experience and provide students with opportunities to live with a wide range of people from different backgrounds and cultures.

We are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic about working with young people and want to have a positive impact on students' experience whilst boarding. As a Boarding House Mentor, you will play a crucial role in the wellbeing and development of our boarders ensuring their safety, academic progress and personal growth. This is a great opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young people in our vibrant boarding community.

**The Role**

The Boarding House Mentor works as part of a team, reporting to either the Head of Girls or Boys Boarding, to support and supervise students in their boarding life, ensuring students safety and wellbeing, while nurturing their progress socially, emotionally and academically.

Boarding staff play a significant role in ensuring our boarders are motivated, encouraged and valued.

**_ An overview of key responsibilities for the Boarding House Mentor include:_**
- Providing appropriate social and emotional support to students maintaining appropriate child safety boundaries.
- Liaising with relevant Head of Boarding where there is a concern for the health and wellbeing of a boarding student.
- Supporting and supervising students whilst in the Boarding House, during study preparation and during meals.
- Ensuring students are adhering to Boarding House processes and routines, and that appropriate behaviour is maintained.
- Managing boarders leave requests by ensuring that students are signed in and out of the Boarding House.
- Managing breakfast, room checks and departures of students for school in the morning in a timely manner.
- Arming the Boarding House alarm system at designated times, ensuring that the students are settled for the night. Ensuring that the students are settled for the night and that the Boarding House is secure.
- Provide basic medical assistance when needed, including the administration of medication.

**About You**

We are looking for someone who has a genuine interest in supporting teenagers in a residential Boarding House setting.

It is important that you are able to work weekends, undertake sleepovers and work when our students are not at school during term time. You will have the skills to build positive relationships with young people, provide pastoral care, and monitor students' progress socially, emotionally and academically.

You have excellent communication skills, are mature and compassionate and a uphold a commitment to confidentiality and privacy.

**How to Apply**

Current Working with Children Check and Police Check is required. Holding a current first aid certificate would be highly desirable.
